Sound that sounds like a dull wine

I have noticed since I had my car that if I accelerate, then let off the gas, there is a low wine sound. Is this normal? It's not really loud. It is noticeable when the radio is off. This doesn't happen everytime, but alot of the time.

Thanks

I have something similar I've noticed, it's right around 45-50 mph. If I apply just enough gas to maintain speed, there is a dully, whirring/whining sound. Is that what you're talking about? I have the 5 speed auto transmission. Mine's a brand new 2006 TL.

Exclamation Intermediate Shaft Bearing Heat Shield

You could be experiencing the issue with the Intermediate Shaft Bearing Heat Shield. The Acura March 2006 ServiceNews discusses the issue on the first page.

Thanks for posting that. I've searched through a number of threads about the transmission sound, but they all seem to refer to the 2004-5 TL (including the 2006 ServiceNews you referred me to). But my car is a 2006.

Does that make sense?

If your 06 TL is exhibiting the very same symptoms listed in the article, I would print the article and take it to the dealership. I would make the dealership perform the repair as described in the article.

I understand you have an 06 and the article talks about 04 - 05 TL. However, the 06's may still have the issue. At worst case, what have you got to lose?

Yep, good point. That's exactly what I'm going to do. Thanks again!

It took them this long to publish something on this problem?

Anyway, it's an easy (and warranty) fix...however, my dealer did the prescribed fix twice before replacing the heat shield the third time...been silent ever since.

I recently had a whining noise...replacement of the belt tensioner pulley took care of it.

In fairness to Acura, they posted this issue in the October 2004 ServiceNews for the 04 TL models.

Glad to hear they finally got your car fixed.

Hey Chill_dog,

When they adjusted the heat shield for you, how long did the job take?

Is it something I can wait for or do I have to leave the car with them?

A_UFO - Ah...probably why they "fixed" it the way they did the first two times. Oh well, it's been fixed for a while now, and that's good because it was REALLY annoying. I can totally sympathize with anyone else who has it.

HuKaShI - Honestly, I have no idea. Every time I took it in, I had other things done, as well (rattle fixes, oil change, etc.)...that and given my dealer's location, it's easier for me to drop off and pick up after work, so I usually get a loaner and just go back the next day.

For some reason I had that same problem, but about 2 weeks ago, I've noticed it was gone. At first I thought it's the cold weather that's causing this but the temperature here has been the same for few months and the noise is gone.......

The past few days, same thing has happened with me. I made an appointment with the service department for next week, but I haven't heard the noise for a few days now. And the weather got much colder here the past few days, so I assumed it was that. If it's still not making the noise when it warms up again, I'll be really confused. Either way, I'll probably keep the service appointment. With my luck, the noise will go away the instant I drive onto the dealer's lot.

I dont know if this is it or not, but I had a very light whistling sound at around 45-50 mph. It turned out to be coming from the transmission.

Was something wrong that needed to be fixed?

I just got back from the dealer and they retorqued the heat shield and said it test drove fine. Well, not for me. Same exact thing, hasn't changed at all. Either I'm being really retentive about it or they need to look at it again.

Hey Guys,

I have a feeling that my steering wheel is not symetrical when the car runs straight. It gives me the feeling to be tilted towards right. I have 2006 TL, is this a illusion or anyone of you have seen this. My dealer says its fine. He doesn't see the tilt.

Please help

It took the dealership i went to like 10 test drives to finally hear it. One of the shop techs went out for a test drive to feel brake pulsation and rear deck rattles, and on our way back to the dealership, i pointed out the whistling and he heard it. So it might be that the person who took it out for a drive doesn't have great hearing. I can see what my work order says on it when i get out of work and let u know.

That would be great, if you don't mind. The guy who drove mine said he compared it to his own TL and that it sounded the same to him. That doesn't really tell me anything, though.
