Sigh... blew my engine. Help please.

So I blew my engine in my 04 6MT TL. I need a replacement, but I'm not sure where to look. I also don't want to blow the bank. I have heard of people getting engines from Japan that supposedly have more power due to different regulations in that country... of course, I've seen that in an Integra, not a TL. Does anyone have more information about where a good place to look for an engine would be, and I'm curious about people getting engines from Japan, whether it's all myth or not, I would like some more information about that too. Thank yall!

Just get a used TL engine, or if you have the money and time have a 3.6 stroker built.

The J-series is made in America, Not Japan.

Also, what happened to the engine?!?!?!
you could save a lot of money by just re-machining the heads

Only countries the TL was sold in is US, Canada, some dominican countries and China. Maybe a few choice more but your options for importing a motor are very slim.

There are lots of J series motors, however if you want ease of install and cheap, stick with a 100k mile or so J32 engine which is the stock one in your vehicle. Swapping to a J35 will require lots of modding and also a new transmission I do believe.

Find a junk yard that has decent motors and try to bargain with them on a used motor, just make sure you have some sort of documentation that shows mileage. Maybe even take a mechanic or someone whos good with motors to give you a second opinion of the motor you would be interested in.

odyessy motor should have the same bell housing. I think someone on v6p was swapping on on his AV6. I am pretty sure that you can find more mini vans then you can TL

I have no advice other than try to get a low mileage used engine- I also would like to know how the engine was blown (run out of oil, over-rev, broken TB?)

J32A3 are not exactly rare and you can pretty much bolt up a lot of them there 3.5L to it and run them just fine....

I'm still not exactly sure. The oil light was on about a week prior, and then I heard ticking getting louder and more obnoxious, and it blew before I could get a chance to look at it. Lot's of smoke and it even caught on fire a little bit when I opened the hood and looked down into it.

So you drove around for a week with the oil light on. You've got balls to actually admit that, and due to your candor, I'm going to forego putting up the Patrick Stewart face palm.

I'd start calling salvage yards in your general area.

OP I actually feel your pain. I found oil on sparks plugs 1 thru 3, piston rings are done. My car used to shut off after getting about normal operating temperature, due to rear cat being bad. Sadly it was to late and my engine was damaged. I order a used J35 engine from lkqonline.com. Wasn't cheap but they had couple of engine available. Keeping the old one and make it a project engine when I get it out.

I have a 100% intact fully assembled j32a3 motor out of an 04 TL that even includes the wiring harness with 88,xxx miles on it that I'd be willing to sell for $440 plus shipping or local pickup if you're from (or around) Plano, Tx.

For this particular j-series engine code, no. Finding a sub-100k complete j32a3 that's as clean as the one I have will generally set you back $700-$1150.

Dood really? low oil and you just said "aww screw it i'll check it later?"

adding oil would have been cheaper than what you are about to pay...

btw when you blew your engine did you spit or swallow?

Only time I've ever seen an engine "blow" is after shoving a 250hp shot of nitrous down its cylinders. That was a stock j32a2 and that was after 5x bottles. Lol

You're selling that too cheap Robert. Have you decided that you have too many engines laying around the shop?

Wow I'm impressed the engine lasted that long. Usually by the time the low oil light comes on, damage has already been done.

Yes, exactly. It's engine liquidation time. Check the black market for better deals everyone. I literally have SHELVES full of engine parts that need to go.
