Service BS

I just took my 05 TL in for its A1 service (45K miles). About 20 minutes after I dropped it off my "service advisor" called me an told me that I would need a power steering, brake, and trans power flush for the low low price of $750. I told him it wasn't needed and he told me if I didn't get it done it any issues with those components would not be cover under the warranty becuase I failed to get it done. I asked him how that could be since he was trying to sell the items to me as a value added service, and the service intervals don't require those items. He told me they did and I should have had it done twice already. I asked him if that was the case how come no one had mentioned it before? Then it became irritating when I told him I thought I may have had it done at another dealer. He called me back 5 minutes later to say he had called them and they told him that I didn't have the service done there, so again he tried to sell me on it.

Am I totally off base or has anyone else's dealer told them that they need these fluid power flush jobs?

What exactly does your owners manual call for on this service.
Have you had all prior service done at dealer?
What does the warranty book for your car say- mileage limits and service requirements will be listed for every component- they vary

Sounds like a fast shuffle and retry to me, but I am a gen 2 owner- your car may be different.

I do believe in brake fluid flush once a year- about 60-75 bucks at private shop

Call Acura Care at 1-800-382-2238 x 5 and ask them- thats corp customer service and .......

According to the manual, brake fluid needs to be replaced every 3 years regardless of the maintenance minder and mileage. Transmission fluid needs to be changed when "3" pops up on your MM or, under severe conditions, at 60,000 miles and every 30,000 miles afterwards. Power Steering fluid is not directly mentioned but, but the condition and level of all fluids should be checked at every MM interval.

So the service adviser threatened that your warranty would be voided? Well, your warranty expires in 5,000 miles anyway so you might want to tell him that you'll take that risk. I'd also tell him that you'll be taking your car to another service department from here on out because he is a liar.

No, you're correct.
Pull the manual out to show service adviser the MM schedules and let him know you do not appreciate BS. ChuckDu's post above covers maintenance under the MM system. Also, flushing the steering fluid is NOT recommended by Honda/Acura.

I see you're in NOVA. Which dealership was this so I don't take it to them. I'm getting my A1 service done tomorrow. I have just over 60K on my car. $750 for just fluid changes seems excessive. It should be a crime to try to rip customers off like that.

It is a crime- its called FRAUD and needs to be reported to
Acura Customer Care 1-800-382-2238 x5

And the dealer level- Go in person and speak with the Service Manager- since that
person is responsible for the advisors actions
Speak with the Dealer General Manager and Owner of the place
Write Acura and detail your experience

Let all know you went online and spead the word about them!

The brake fluid and tranny fluid should be changed and it probably would not hurt to change out the power steering fluid as well but $750 is as close to robbery as you can get.
