I seafoamed using deep creep and now the check engine light is on! WTF. It came on after I had some rough engine noise and shot a lot of smoke out the back.

How do I reset CEL?

Is this a fouled plug problem?

Could it be something serious?

you need a code reader that has the option to delete it

Is this something that autozone can do?

EDIT: I'm going out tonight and I can't stand to drive around looking at that ghetto engine light...

if you want a temporary fix for you to go out tonite, cut a small amount of black electrical tape and cover it. you probably couldn't see it, if you're worried about a girl noticing i doubt they would see that. this of course would just be to temporary so it won't be so 'ghetto' for the night. i'm sure you could get ride of any residue left by the tape also

Nothing is wrong with your car.

Stop worrying.

Make sure you have your Navi codes with you! Disconnect the negative on your battery for 15 minutes and the code will not return.

I went to autozone. The code actually read "engine air intake leak." The guy reset it for me, although I had to beg him to do so.

Thanks for the black tape suggestion, lol!

did you put the hose clamp back on the vac line to the TB after you foamed?
and check the smaller vac line that goes to the rear of the manifold

Depending on how you did the seafoam procedure and engine temps- carbon loading-spark plug age, and the all important burn off drive afterwards,,,a CEL may happen
You can pull the CLOCK fuse #13 on passenger side footwell or side of dash-for a minute or 2
thats the secret backup power to the ecu- and doesnt require resetting the radio code

make sure you spray clean the TB butterfly plate too- remove the air intake snout and clean it with spray-toothbrush and rag if needed~

gas and oil vapors are routed from the valve cover to the intake tube- and some sticks to the plate- causes idle probs- poor running

This is my first seafoam so I'm going to worry about this plate later on. I'm sure it's a mess. But now I'm out of deep creep and I'm lazy to buy more just for this plate when I'll have to repeat in 3000 miles anyway.

I didn't exactly time the incubation period before going for my drive. Could that have been the problem? I bet I waited 5 minutes, tops. I heard engine knock like I've never heard before and then the CEL came on. Totally scared the crap out of me but I'm back in business now.

I'm getting the oil changed on Monday. I feel like the car is more responsive already!

the percolate time is 5-15 minutes, keeping the engine temp warm is important thing on that part- dont want cooling off of engine.

When you start it and it sounds like death- let it stabilize- when it can rev to 2000 ok, slowly drive away from the scene. As it becomes clean running at 2000, then go to 4000 and drive in 2nd/3rd gear for 10 minutes- that makes it hot hot in the exhaust and is blowing out crud
Do some quick blast up to 5000 and then slow down- repeat as able
You can do those from slow speed to medium speed
Speeding ticket is not required~

throw a can of liquid seafoam in 1/2 tank of gas
Or throw half a can in the gas at 1/4 tank and the rest in the oil before you drive to get it changed-or change it yourself. Thats really good for the oil passages!

you dont have to wait 3000 miles- the can says repeat in 2000 miles (for 1st timers) but in a month or 2 is what important---getting the rest of whats there now that its been initially cleaned, and running good gas with cleaner has been doing more--- then a few tanks on its own--- then seafoam it and you are good for a year

make sure to clean the TB plate- really changes throttle response!
