Rust/brown spots in side mirrors?
Rust/brown spots in side mirrors?
i notice in some of the 2004-2005 acura tl, there are brown/rust spots in the side mirrors? is this common? is there a fix or something to prevent it from getting bigger?
thanks.
thanks.
Yeah, I have them...
Mine are pretty bad.
Bought the car with it.
I have never used the heated mirror feature anywho.
I don't feel like shelling out $100 to replace the mirrors right now heheh

I got the same issue. Mine is located on the driver side couple of spots. Glad I am reading this but I doubt I hardly ever use the side mirror heater but def. good info to know after buying my car couple of weeks ago

Or we can have the "prize winning" priuses that go off and kill people, Ill stick with the ACURAs. Also, isn't that a hazard to not have vision? I am sure they will goodwill the $20 piece of glass.
I bought the mirrors myself from Acura and replaced them, took about 10 - 20 mins, took my time with the first one since I never tried this before. It's really rather simple and can be done yourself. I tried to take pics of the actual tab that you need to place the screwdriver in to, I'll see if I can dig them up. Seriously though, they were like $35 at the dealership in Brampton and they had them in stock...get those fixed!

Maybe I'll pop in the dealership and talk to them.
I am replacing mine soon just ordered through the estore fast delivery to the dealership and cheaper compare to what the dealer parts dept charges. Also, ordered the rear a/c vents assembly since one of my vents sliders had broken off I guess cheap plastics. since I have the CPO contract, the only parts are covered under my 12 mos 12k bumper to bumper is like my HFL unit and the passenger side motor mount unfortunately my rust spot side mirrors or the rear vents are not covered
And I can say that in my case this is not caused by leaving the mirror heaters on because in San Diego I do not even use them except perhaps one day a year
I just bought my car about 45 days ago and both of my mirrors have that brown spot, but its not only on the glass but on the paint too. but only on both mirrors??? is this caused from the heaters too.
Why replace your mirror glass when you could just slap these on instead?:

Mirror Disintegration
I disagree with leaving the heaters on...the heaters don't get that hot anyway. I had a 2003 Accord EX...(no heater mirror option available)....and my passenger side mirror did the exact same thing while the car was still under warranty. They replaced it.
Now this month my TL has begun doing the same thing.....identical spotting about 1" in from the upper corner. However on its the driver's side on the TL.
I live in LA so it shouldn't be from extreme temperatures....all I can think of is that it is from some sort of chemical from car washes or something...and I do wash my car once a week.

My 2004 TL has never been in a car wash and has been in Florida since new. I have never intentionally used mirror heaters.
But I have the infamous brown spots on both mirrors.
In addition, I have something happening on the inside rear-view mirror that looks like a clear liquid melting across the top for about a half inch. It almost looks like it is de-laminating or has water trapped under the glass. Doubt it is water because it gets pretty hot in there and water would have evaporated.
After seven and a half years, if this and the broken cup holder cover are the only problems I have, I won't complain.
