"Rub" sound from inside dash

I've search the forums and haven't been able to find anything that sounds like this problem with my 2006 TL:

Temperatures here have been ranging from 50-60's at night to 80-90's in the day. When I get into the car after work in the afternoon, there is a "rubbing" sound when the key is turned to the "on" position (not the "accessory" position). It happens a few seconds after the key is turned to this position, regardless of whether I crank the engine or not. It seems to be coming from the center of the dash, but could also be somewhere else on the driver's side.

The sound is from something moving but with rubbing against something else. It almost sounds like rubber rubbing against something, maybe a gasket around a vent or something. When I first noticed it, the sound was almost like someone sliding over the leather seat; that's what I thought it was at first. It defintely seems temperature related; happens more when the afternoon is warmer. It also only happens once; if you turn the key off and back on it doesn't repeat. It doesn't seem related to the AC/Climate system; I've heard the sound whether it's on or off.

I also can't swear that this is related, but I had it back at the dealership for rattle repairs to the center dash speaker about 5 weeks ago. (They broke the grille in the process and had to order another one, but haven't called me back that it's in and I haven't had the time to take it in anyway). I'm almost certain the sound started after the visit.

Any clues what ths might be? The car only has 4K on it, and like I said seems to have started rather suddenly.
