RH mirror problems

My passenger side mirror is messed up. When I put the car in reverse the mirror starts turning inward and doesn't stop moving. It makes these weird clinking noises too. Do I need a new mirror or can this be fixed?

Are your windshield washer and the green light in the rearview mirror inop?
If so, then it's fuse #20. Replace it with 10A. See the other mirror/seat memory threads in the trouble forum for a link to the TSB to replace fuse 20 with a 10A fuse.

If not check fuse #7 and #30.

havent found anything useful yet....

so ive been searching around and still havent found anything like my problem. When I put the car in reverse my driver side mirror works fine. Now when I switch it over to the R-Side(passenger) The mirror turns inward instead of down. yes I repeat inward (towards the car) instead of down. I checked all my fuses, everything is fine. Everything works just doesnt seem to be turning the right way.

Does your windshield washer work?

Fuses involved are 7, 20 and 30. Double check those. What amp is your fuse#20?

Otherwise, it is probably a bad actuator.

All the Fuses are good. Could be the actuator. I wonder if it's easy to replace ?

One more time:

1. Does your windshield washer work?
2. What amperage fuse is your fuse #20?

Everything works nothing is malfunctioning lol. Just don't know why it would go inward instead of down. Nothing seems loose either.

OK, just humor me and tell me what amperage fuse is plugged into slot #20. Look at the amp rating on the actual fuse, not the diagram on the fuse cover.

Thanks.

OK, then someone has done the TSB. If you are certain that the 3 fuses are all good, then I'd have to assume you either have:

1. a bad switch
2. a bad actuator control module
3. a bad actuator
4. a bad mirror position sensor.

FYI, the mirrors can/will still move even if one of the fuses is blown, but their operation becomes erratic. That's why you need to ensure that your fuses are good before moving on. Most people assume that because there is power to the mirrors (i.e. they still move), it can't be caused by a fuse. They'd be wrong.

Does the passenger mirror operate correctly when using the mirror position switch to move it around in all directions?

Thanks for the help man. This is what it does. I put the car in reverse and flip the switch so it can operate the right mirror. The mirror starts to turn inward and never stops. It just keeps going until it starts to stutter because it can't go anymore. When the car is in park I control the mirror with no problems. I think I might remove the mirror and take a physical look. I'm guessing the mirror position sensor is behind there.

I had this problem! Move the mirror all the way - right, left, up & down via the switch...it'll be fine. It has something to do with the grease on the jackscrews in the mirror's mechanism. Once it "knows" it can move freely again, it will stop freaking out.
