replacing rotor and running into some problem.

I am trying to replace my rotors. i can't get the retain screws to come off, so force it and stripped the screw. Should i know just drill the screw or is there a better way to do this.
Has anyone replaced the rotor on their own. how did you get get the screw to come off because hand held screw driver doesn't work for me.

yeah same thing has happened to me on multiple occasions. theyre put on with air tools so usually only a very strong tool will be able to remove them. If you dont have access to air try an electric impact, not as strong but might do it.

as for the one youve already stripped, your best bet is to take a drill and drill that sucker off. youre not gonna be able to get a tool to grab it once its stripped.

they dont actually provide any actual use, they just hold the rotor on the hub when the wheel is off.

good luck

you needed to use a hand impact screwdriver... i replaced my front rotors on my TL-S had to use an electric impact gun to get the main center bolt off then a hand impact screw driver to get the 2 screws off...

without these you are pretty much screwed... go to harbor freight and grab a set it will save you so much time and hassle

I'm not sure what "main center bolt" you're referring to, but if you mean the axle spindle nut, that was completely unnecessary if simply replacing the rotors.

Yep. Once you get 'em drilled out, don't replace them. They're pointless. The lugs will hold the rotor on just fine.

Drill'em! I twisted 3 bits using an impact driver. Although if you use an impact driver, set it to tighten first and give it a few whacks.. then set it to loosen.

go to your local auto store and get a impact screwdriver.. basically it has a phillips head, and it turns the screw if you hit the back with a hammer.. works very well for a $8 piece

Well, if you want to use this as an excuse to get an air compressor, go for it. But, it's not needed. Like others have already stated, all you need is a cheap $10 impact screwdriver. No compressor required -- just a hammer to whack the impact screwdriver with. Don't confuse "impact screwdriver" with "impact wrench":

You don't need air for the retention screws but if you need a retarded reason to get air, this would be it, but don't be mad when it doesn't work. The retention screws are a PITA because of the excessive heat and moisture they are subjected to not because they were torqued down at the factory with industrial air guns. You can either try removing them with an impact driver for ~45 mins or more (50/50 chance).. or drill the screw heads out in ~15 mins (100% effective).

QFT. Just spent $25 on an impact screwdriver at Home Depot. Banged away at the damn things and ended up stripping the screws and twisting up the screwdriver bit. Ended up drilling all of them out in minutes.

...Wish there was a better way for these screws. They're ALWAYS a pain.

first off.. those 2 screws that u have to take off your rotor.. there is a certain way of taking them off.. your NOT just supposed to take an impact driver and just hammer away.. the screws get stuck to the rotor from rust. your supposed to take a ball peen hammer, use the round side of it and hit the srews with a few hard hits(to loosen the rust) THEN use the impact driver to take the screws off. i was an acura tech for a while and did this and NEVER had a stripping issue.

Use a 7/16 drill bit and it's literally a 5 second job removing the screws. It's actually quicker to drill the head off than it is to remove them with a screwdriver even if they weren't always stuck. When doing mine, it didn't even put a dent into my time.

To clarify, you're not trying to drill drill the entire screw out. You use a larger bit so that it takes the head off in just 5 seconds.

YUp^^^ WHen i replaced my rear rotors (that i got from "I Hate CArs" thanx lol) all i did was get a drill and took the head off the bolt then wacked the rotor with a hammer and the rotor came off. Literally took under 30 seconds. Didn't even attemp it with a screw driver. You dont need to put the screws back either its not nessacary the reason why there there in the first place is that honda puts it there so when the car comes down the factory line the rotor is held in place.
