Which Replacement Battery?

this morning for no apparent reason, the battery in the TL is DEAD.

ive read these problems about the battery sucking so probably just going t go and buy one from autozone rather than the dealer just because of how far it is.

people all say optima yellow top - why? it has 200 less cold/reg. cranking amps than some duralasts and the duralast is 100$ cheaper... are you just buying the name or is it really that reliable when even the crank amps are lower?...

Optima Battery / Battery

A lot of the original '04 batteries have been hitting that 'age'. I replaced mine a few months ago when it tested at about half the cranking capacity.

The yellow EverStart Maxx from Walmart is highly rated in Consumer Reports, about $70 with trade-in. It's the one I went with. So far, so good.

UMM YEAHHH, you def. need a new one, and I would run new Power wire, so that you get rid of all the corrosion otherwise its a never ending thing, even if you pour coke to neutralize the corrosion

I just bought a 05 Tl TONIGHT!!! I bring it home and the battery seems to have died. At first the starter wouldn't even try and after about twenty minutes it started the rapid clicking! I'm so pissed. It has 38,000 miles. Help!

You might not need a battery.
You need a new cable.
Clean the corrosion with a baking soda and water solution, and keep it clean and greased from now on and it won't break again.

The optima batteries are awesome batteries. It may have a lower cca but they simply don't lose any cca and last a very long time. They can take heavy loads. But honestly, a duralast is good enough.

I picked up an EverStart battery from Walmart last fall based on the reviews in Consumer Reports and elsewhere. 875 CA / 700 CCA, fits perfectly, and is dirt cheap (think it was around $50-60).

I disagree on this. I used to be tire/battery tech. The battery is corroding due to a cracked cell in the battery causing the acid to heat up and leak out the terminal. Both the battery and the cable need replacing. If you don't the battery will evetually explode and it will cost lots more to repair those damages that a simple battery replacement.

I got a question that is pertaining to this topic... how come the TL dies so quickly when you have the music (stock audio system) thumping for about 15 mts with the car off or sometimes even during the duration of filling up gas at a gas station? Would replacing the battery give me more run time and less need to worry about that I need to shut all the electronics off everytime I'm idling?

It is because the stock batteries suck and yes by replacing with a quality after market, you do get more run time. With a dry cell in the past, I have ran my radio for hours and it started just fine afterwards.
