Red airbag light stays on
Red airbag light stays on
sup azine, to make long story short I bought 04 TL few months ago and it had red airbag light on since. I searched the whole forum and Google for an answer and determined it was a seatbelt buckle so I replaced the whole buckle by following awesome DIY I found here. Unfortunately, that didn't do anything and light is still on.. I did find something interesting tho.. Found a wire not connected to anything. Attached is the picture.. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
You could always take it to a dealer and them run a diagnostic on it to determine which sensor it is. My passenger airbag switch built into the hazard button is faulty causing mine to stay on. Part was $35 but have yet to rip dash apart to change it out. I will do it when I replace lights around Nav unit.

You don't need to rip your dash out. The vents pull straight out (with some force and prying - from underneath after pulling one of the silver trims off) and you can disconnect the switch. You'll need a flat piece to slip between one side of the switch to unmount it (also easy when you get the hang of it). Reverse to install back and it should be fixed. Takes 5 mins max.

Im assuming it's the passenger seat? It's your OPDS unplugged from the looks of it. If you place a light weight bag on the seat, the airbag off should indicate on the hazard switch. And if you sit on the very right edge of the passenger seat, the side airbag light on the gauge cluster will illuminate. Do your hazard switch work? If that is unplugged you'll get a light too.
Since you have an 04, you must not have the airbag light under the hazard switch?

The 05 seats introduced the airbag cutoff switch, which is why you may have an extra connector. Not 100% but the 04 may still have the OPDS if cutoff is not present.

Part numbers for airbag parts are different between 04 and 05. That could also be something for you to look at.

WDPanda - I noticed when I would go to my bowling tournaments, yes bowling! I would throw my extra bowling balls (2 @ 15# a piece) on the front seat and the dash light won't come on, but when there is nothing on the seat it lights up. Would this still indicate that the passenger switch (hazard button) is the culprit?
Driver's side shouldn't have the OPDS. You might have to scan it to make certain which component is the problem. Is there no wire from the car? It may have got tucked into the carpet. The driver's seat has power to move, power for heated seat, seat buckle connector and power for the side air bag. It's for one of those and since you have an airbag light, your side airbag is probably going to show.

Airbag light off should only come on when something like a child or backpack is on it.
