Rearview Mirror Not Working With Tint

I have a 08 Type-S with window tint on rear and side windows. The auto dimmer on the rearview mirror is not working. When I'm driving at night the bright headlights from the cars behind me are not dimmed by the rearview mirror and that's with the green light on.

If I shine a flashlight on the rearview mirror (rear sensor) it dims. I think cause my rear window is tinted that is the reason the rear sensor does not pickup the headlights coming through the tinted rear window. I tried shining the flash light and covering the front sensor on the mirror and I get no change on mirror dimming.

Any suggestions on how to make rearview mirror sensor more sensitive or maybe manually dim mirror at night?

i have 5% limo tint on my rear windshield. with the auto dimming feature on, it will still dim a little when bright lights shine through my tints, so unless your tints are darker than mine then its not your tints causing the problem. maybe your sensor is dirty? dont think theres any adjustments

Try covering part of the sensor on the front of the mirror. I "think" it operates on a difference between the front and rear light sensors.

you added tint.
i understand it's supposed to dim, but you added tint between the rear glass and rear view mirror, making the auto dimming feature less effective.

if you want that feature back, take off the tint or use a higher percentage tint.

when you deviate away from stock, you're always always going to have to compromise or trade off different features.

I have limo tint on my car as well and the auto-dim function definitely works. Are you saying not dimmed AT ALL? or not dimmed by much. it sounds somewhat subjective and the tint definitely has a lot to do with. Tint also dims the headlights a good amount.

I have a 10% tint on my rear window, and my auto dimming dims slightly even when it's really bright out (I didn't recall it doing that when I didn't have a tint). That being said it does dim a bit more at night when someone is behind me, so it's not like tint completely 'breaks' the auto dimming. Perhaps the sensor is dirty and doesn't pick up the subtle headlights?

Less light coming in = less light to dim. Sounds normal.

Actually make sure there is nothing blocking the FRONT of the rearview mirror either. I remember hanging something off the mirror a couple times and night mode didn't work and I was like WTF till I removed whatever tag was hanging on the mirror.

I agree tint on your rear window shouldn't affect this, mine works fine.

I tinted my 07 right after I purchased it, new. %20 smoke.

Never had a problem until this year. It stays too dark at night.

test it by using a flashlight shine light at sensor and it should dim, if it does, you know it's most likely not the mirror. Do you have the mirror turned on? (led lit)
