Rear view mirror leaking fluid

so last night im driving my car around when I notice my rear view mirror is showing double image of each cars headlight behind me. I also noticed a circular shaped "bubble" that stretched from the top left side to the top right side. It wasnt touching the corners it was more like an "Hey Arnold" shaped circle. Anyway...it appeared to have condensation in it.

Well today...I jump in my car and now the entire rear view mirror looks like it has condensation in it...when i position my head directly under it and look up i noticed this black liquid oozing out of it....so now ive got black liquid coming out of the fuckin mirror.

I have always had that little button on the mirror pushed in (says AUTO) and the green light has always been on.

has anyone else had this issue yet?

i read about this before and it turns out that this is a well known problem about mirrors that have the auto-dimming feature.

i read that some members had it happen to them and brought it into the dealership and they fixed it no charge. i'm not sure if that individual bought the car from the dealership and had warranty on it or not.

but yeah pretty much your rear view mirror is just gonna get replaced with a new one.

well i called the acura customer service and have a case manager assigned. I am at 103k miles so I definitely have no warranty. I also cannot use my rearview mirror for its intended purpose so hopefully they agree that this is a safety concern. I will keep you guys updated on how this gets replaced.

Wrap a gallon ziploc bag around it ASAP!!! You do not want that fluid to get on any part of your interior. I went to dealer and paid $100, for a new one installed. Only went to dealer to get it ASAP!

but yea, i dont turn mine on in case this happens. My tint gets rid of most of the glare anyway.

I don't recall a TSB (you can search them here: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-technical-service-bulletins-tsbs-3g-garage-j-016-a-613659/), but it was a major issue in the 2G TL - https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/rear-view-mirror-exploded-549093/

Seriously?? It's a car that is 6 years old. Stuff will fail. The owner is responsible for maintaining the vehicle. The mirror is under $100. Just order a new one and install it.

This is like telling Acura that I ran out of gas, now I am stalled in the middle of the road and this is a safety issue. Please fix this ASAP since I can no longer use my vehicle for its intended purpose.

Yeah, stuff do fail.
My side mirrors got the burn marks which i replaced for $100 too.

Oh, you can prevent yourself from stalling your car because you ran it til empty, but you can't prevent your mirror from this problem...

^100% agree, there is no maintenance that you can do that will prevent your mirror from failing like that. So comparing it to running out of gas is just plain idiotic.

Expecting a dealer to fix everything that fails is idiotic.

no one ever said for the dealer to fix everthing. If something fails, it doesnt mean that the owner failed to maintain the vehicle like what was stated before. But anyways OP i just found this on ebay.Ebay OEM Rearview Mirror<Click words!! OEM is a little cheaper through our parts sites but this has free shipping.

Yes, my rear view mirror suddenly had the bubble in it with semi-double reflections. I replaced it and the one in my other (wife's) TL the next day. It's a simple replacement and takes perhaps 10 minutes. Do it ASAP.

I did a write up on this a short while back. You will want to have a Service Manual handy.

Be careful when trying to get the mirror off the mount. My clip wouldn't budge, then suddenly the mirror went flying and smacked the dash. But overall the replacement process shouldn't take more than 15 minutes once you have the directions on how to open up the overhead console properly.

This won't happen if you use the two pry holes in the mirror mounting base. Using a small straight blade screwdriver, insert the blade into each hole consecutively and pry the base using the windshield mounting bracket as the support for your prying. Do the same in reverse when installing the new bracket if the mirror mounting base will not fully slip onto the windshield bracket.

Good luck, I would not be surprised if the dealer replaces it. Its a minimal cost for Acura that makes customers happy and could be goodwill. I've read of other members having their failed transmissions replaced after warranty, this would be much cheaper! And if they don't its not a big deal and the cost is not terrible.

Blinker fluid should last the life of the blinkers. Stuff costs a fortune if you need it.

Hello all-

Looks like my mirror is going crazy as well. I have an 5 tl and the auto dimming feature as gone away and there appears to be stratches on the mirror. I read on here prior about magna donnelly and I have tried contacting them but they keep passing me around. Is there still a way to get this replaced for free? Thanks for the help

there is a TSB on the mirror and unless you have a good working relationship with your dealer you probably wont get it repaired for free.
