Rear rotor rust.

Rear rotor rust.
I noticed one of my rear rotors has a lot of rust right in the area where the pads make contact. It is only in the one wheel (left rear). The other 3 wheels are OK. I thought I had another bad caliper (last time it was the right side seized up), so I jacked up the car and had my wife step on the brake as I turned the tire. When she steps on the brake the wheel stops and I can't move it at all as long as she has her foot down on the brake. When she releases, I can once again turn the tire.
I also have plenty of pad left, which I checked visually.
I am at a loss to explain why this one rotor has all that rust. I hear no squeaks, squeals, or anything. The car feels normal. Is it possible for only the inside pad to be grabbing ?. I did not check the inner side of the rotor.
Obvioulsy, a trip to the shop is in order, but I want to have an idea of what's going on so I don't get taken for a ride.

Just burn the rust off. Go out later at night with no traffic, get up to 50mph, and stomp on the brakes and stay on them until you get to a full stop. The heat and friction should take care of the rust on the pads and rotors.

I'll go to an empty parking lot and try high speed reverse and see what happens.

I drove the car like a maniac on a bunch of hilly streets, and then for good measure, I drove it in fast reverse slamming the brakes a few times....
when I got back to my driveway, it seemed that some of the rust had gone away.
I'll do this a few more times over the next week, and see what happens.

You certainly don't need to drive like a maniac to have the rust dissapear. There must be something wrong with that caliper as you can see the rotor is different from the other 3, and as repeated normal stops doesn't clear the rust away. I'd look farther into a caliper problem, or the shims and make certain there is proper lubrication and no binding.

What a bunch of crap. Took it to the dealer and they said there is nothing wrong.
I actually drove the car back, and then touched both rear rotors. One was hot, the one with problem was barely warm.

I've never seen rust on a disk surface where the pads contact it.
I don't even try to wash my car after driving it for more than a mile because of the hot rotors on each corner after using the brakes a few times.

My rear rotors have the same rust in the middle where the pads touch. It's time for new ones,as my pads worn out they screwed up the rotor but mine squeak also. just buy new rotors for the rear along with pads.

Well, I pounded the shit out of the brakes for 2 days and the rust eventually came off.
I actually think the caliper was stuck somehow, and all the pounding freed it up.
I will still have the car checked out.
