Hey everyone,

I am going to be changing the rear brakes pads soon. I just wanted confirm if I can use a "C-Clamp to push the rear piston back or do I need "The Special Caliper Tool"?

Thank you

Also a small block of wood or something to cross the piston when you're pressing it back in.

Use the old pad as the covering.

So I don't need a tool like the one below to push the rear piston back into the caliper?

Thanks

C clamp is fine, the piston doesn't screw into the caliper.

Nope, don't need any special tool. Check out the various DIYs in the Garage (D-041, D-094):

Don't need no "special" tool.

If you're changing the pads, just (carefully) wedge a large flat-head screwdriver between the old pad and the disc. Lever the pad against the piston and it'll compress just fine.

If you're concerned about damaging/scarring the disc, put a bit of rag between the screwdriver and disc where the lever point is.

Works on the fronts too.

I had the clamp ready but I pushed mine in by hand easily.

The correct way to do it is to open the bleeder while you have pressure on the piston and let the fluid escape out of the bleeder instead of pushing it backwards through the ABS modulator. Mine was so easy, I can't see it hurting anything without opening the bleeder.

Open the bleeder or remove the cap on the master. I prefer the bleeder as Cars says. If you cant get the caliper off the rotor because of the lip I use a plastic construction shim. Not a fan of prying with a screwdriver here.
