Rattling sounds while idling!??

anybody have any idea why i'm experiencing this strange rattling sound from the engine and vibration when i'm idling? the car is running just fine and have not experienced any problems with my 04 TL besides battery issues. any input is greatly appreciated.

Not sure what that rattling sound you speak of but I have an 06TL as well and no rattles. But then again I have Manual trans. Trust me though. It's not normal.

I have a 2007 TL (24K miles) and upon cranking the car I hear a whistle/ticking noise coming from the engine. It gets louder when I push on the gas. Taken it twice to the dealership and the first time I was told it was the AC Idler...it was replaced. Noise came back within 2 weeks. On the next visit I was told it was something with my timing belt and that they were going to replace it and it's components. 2 weeks later...noise is back. I guess I'll take it back a 3rd time. I thought maybe it could be something with the fuel injector since I hear it when I crank the car and push on the gas.

My '04 TL had a rattle problem and found it was the belt tensioner. replaced it and the belt then sound went away - this was after I had a bad power steering pump and replaced it. Mine rattled when idling and went away as i accelerated - rattle got much worse when I had AC on which probably added drag to the belt and tensioner. Tensioner has a spring that can wear/weaken. I would not say that this rattle noise is normal - probably take a long time to actually fail tho...

Remove the serpentine belt and check the pullies, or you can start it up quickly to see if any noise with the belt off.

rattle noise during idle

I heard this during idle and shifting between gears. Started after floating thru a floody rainstorm into work on the east coast. Any remedy to this?

Turbo, how long can I do this? I did my TB Saturday and now I'm hearing a slight "rattle" coming from the belt area that started this morning. Everything was replaced behind the timing covers and I also installed a lightweight crank pulley but I verfified this morning that it was tight. Pretty sure I have it narrowed down to the serpentine tensioner. I only hear the sound while idling.

Does everyone have a rattle? Because my sound is more like a tick, tick, tick. I usually hear it when I start the car first thing in the morning or after it has been sitting for hours. I don't hear it when the car is in motion, but I hear it again at a traffic light/stop sign then it stops after driving a few miles.

Excuse my ignorance, but is that a major issue?

Ehh not necessarily... I would definitely have them checked/adjusted, if that's what it is. How many miles are on the car?

Update.. Going to the Acura stealer in the AM since I've convinced them to price match parts now and picking up a tensioner. Will post an update tomorrow.

Our cars have a very noisy valve train. I hear chatter coming from my car all the time. TICKTICKTICKTICKTICKTICK

If its exceptionally loud, have a mechanic take a look at the valves and adjust if needed.

I wonder how many times the original thread can be jacked?

To the OP, if you have the rattle and it's not heat shields and the car is getting bad mpg along with a loss of power under heavy throttle, I would start looking at the catalytic convertors. 3rd cat first and then the pre-cats.

Ticking could be fuel injectors or coil packs? Just a thought. As long as it is running good and you are using 93 octane gas and regular oil changes with a Honda filter I think you should be fine. Let a mechanic you trust look at it. Let us know how it turns out.

I had the same problem. Turns out I had a loose tensioner pulley that caused it
