Same problem

I had/have exactly the same problem on my TL, and I just found the source of a huge rattle in my car.

Climb into the back seat with a song playing that has bass that makes the car vibrate (I used "u and dat" by E40; it has the perfect bass to make the rattle). Anyway, put the song on repeat.

The source of my bad rattle (there are others) was the childseat latch anchors. They have these little platic covers over them (there are 3 of them) that hide them from view. Look at the rear deck, as close to the front of the car as possible, you will see them (one is right in the middle, in front of the sub).

Hold them down when the bass hits.. That was an instant reduction in the noise by at least 80% (bass noise, I still have others).

At least now I can turn the music up and not hear the other sounds.

Anyone know how to remove these covers? I am just tapeing mine down, but would love to know a better fix.

There is a service bulletin about the rattles on the rear deck. The dealer should fix this under warranty (mine did).

Is this happening in peoples 06's too? I checked my third brake light, its not that... The rattle is pretty annoying to me as well. It sounds like something comming from the rear window down at the bottom where I can't get to.

Mine is an 06, so yes, it's happening in at least one 06.

Try what I suggested, your problem sounds just like mine, with the sound coming from the same location. The car still rattles from other areas, but at least now I can listen to music to drown it out and not get mad.

Thx.

I've got an 05 with the same EXACT problem, and it drives me NUTS! I also have a rattle coming from the front defroster vents at certain RPM's (maybe because of the Magnaflow exhaust?).
I also have the bibration from the right front passenger door also. I know at the last service I had at the dealer, the tech told me it has to do with the rubber seals installed in the U.S.A. When they replace the rubber seals with seals from Japan, there are no more rattles, says it has to do with the material in the seals. The seals come from Japan in wrappers with Carcinogenic warnings, but not the ones here in the States.

BS or not?

I've seen cables and electrical cords made out of rubber material with carcinogenic warnings on them before. I think the outer shielding was treated with a lead based material.

I believe what your tech is telling you...

I had it in my '06 TL
My dealer actually found the rattle on the rear deck/Sub woofer area when they were using a frequency disc to isolate my other front door rattles. I had only heard it once or twice in the 4 months I've owned it. They just removed the rear deck, replaced the retainer clips as the others were loose, and placed Dynamat foam in between the 2 layers of the rear deck. It took them all of a couple hours to fix that and several other rattles... I would recommend taking it in to the dealer. Good luck with it... I hope you're rattle free soon!
