Well, my 2001 never made that sound when the window was down and I closed my door. the sound also is heard sometimes when he window is up. As I mentioned before I think it's the trim in the door also. It just seems as if the door is not made properly and stable.

Sorry - I was referring to 3G TL's only.

well it's as what u say, it's a 3rd gen issue. I took my car in today for them to look at and they gave me that answer. also, I had a 07 TL loaner and I tested closing the door with the window slightly down and heard the same rattle.

This is a design defect if you ask me. For a car that the MSRP is $38k there should be no rattle or clang sound when u close the door.

OK, Gummi Pflege arrived - will play with it this weekend. Also, my nurse friend says she found her old stethoscope, and I should have it soon!

In the meantime, I followed your advice above and played around with the door/window area while stationary. What i noticed was that the size mirror is VERY creaky! I could easily make a whole lot of noise by flexing the mirror only slightly - so this may be a factor also. Has anyone experimented with silencing the mirror?

Progress!

While still waiting for the stethoscope, and without having applied the Gummi Pflege, I decided to attack the outside mirror. First of all, this is where I hear the loud creaking:

When I press on the two points indicated, especially the lower one, I hear a very pronounced creak. So I sprayed silicone under / behind the rubber
.

I went for a pretty lengthy test drive and did not hear one sound from the window - not even descending the steep and bumpy road outside my house, over which any creaks and rattles are excused!

Here's the product I used, simply because I had it in my garage from prior jobs; hope this is an appropriate product!

I will see how this sounds for a few days before applying the gummi pflege!

Interesting... I think I'm gonna try that after I get my car back from the dealer... I took my car in for rattle in the rear deck... it's been 3 days and they still cannot fix the problem. They told me it's metal grinding against metal when base songs are played. I'm gonna go in to see what the problem is... meanwhile, they gave me a navi RDX to drive... not impressed...

A week after the fix above and the window is SILENT! I'm so pleased!

The sound seemed to be coming from the top, rear, or bottom of the window, but all along it was coming from the outside mirror!

I still plan to Gummi Pflege the rubber, and also to silicone spray some of the interior trim, but I'll wait until a rattle returns.

By the way, in the picture above, I show the spray nozzle under the rubber; in reality, I lifted up the rubber trim, and sprayed heavily in the area. A lot of the liquid ran down the outer side of the door, but wiped off ok.

to the OP, do your hard trim keep popping back out or they sit back nicely in place? i think the felt i bought are too thick, the trims keep popping back out.

do you think if i double up the adhesive weather strip will have same result as felt?

I had similar window rattle issue and simply used gummi pfledge to fix it. The rattle came back after six months, I reapplied it yesterday and now it is quiet again. Don't mind doing it every six months

Need help with Window Trim

Can anyone post pictures that show the fix mentioned in the below post? A few of us have this but the pictures showing how and what to access on door itself are no longer available? Does anyone out there have these images that they can post?
