Random Misfire
Hello Acuraziners,
I ran into an issue with my 07 TL with 73k miles today. When driving back home I floored the car and got CEL flashing. It disappeared after a minute or so. I stopped the car at the gas station and pulled the codes. I got P0300, P0301 and P0305... It is the first time it happened. I already checked front coils but they all work fine. I am not having an issue with loss of power or rought iddling. Is there anything I can do before I take it to the stealership? I deleted the codes and will see how soon they come back...
Thank you in advance!

Sounds to be like bad gas or injectors. What octane do you use?

I always use the most expensive one. I also go only to Mobile1 and Shell. Last time I had to use Citgo but I am not sure if this is the case. I hope that it was only a bad gas. I will refuel again today at Shell and keep eye on it. Thanks for quick response!

What does pcm exactly do and why would it be related?

clear the codes and drive under same conditions . i assume you have changed spark plugs at some point . if code comes back with same 301,305 then take those coils and move them to a diff cylinder and retest. if the code moves then replace faulty coils. check your spark plugs as well .make sure they are not loose.

Thank you, I will do that. I just made a 40 mile trip and so far no codes. I hope that they will never come back since next week I will be doing 600 miles trip and I want to enjoy it instead of stressing out. In worst case scenario I will use my Audi A8 for the trip

floor it more frequently and this issue will go away.

Thanks. I think it was just a bad fuel. I did get an impression that the car didn't really pull as supposed to. I got some fresh 93 octane gas from new Shell gas station, floored if few times and I can tell that the car is more responsive now.
...I hope that it isn't just my brain fooling with me

I've posted this before, the misfire isn't necessarily a cylinder misfire, it's just that the pcm is programmed and looking for a specific increase in rpm at a given throttle value, but doesn't see this increase so the mil is lit. This is one reason that the multiple misfire codes are stored as when there is an engine malfunction the rpm's won't increase as expected, so the codes are created, but there isn't an actual cylinder misfire.
Now, there can be a specific cylinder misfire and the code will be stored/lit.

Thanks Turbronut for a good explanation. I just hope that is was simply poor quality gas messing with car's brain. I try to drive the car more aggressively but I haven't seen any of the codes come back yet.

So I got the car to throw the codes again. I figured out how to make them come back. I hold the car on 2nd gear at over 5k rpms and the CEL flashes. Did that Twice. First time, 5 codes - 300, 301, 302, 305, 306. Cleared the codes, did it again and got 3 codes - 300, 301, 305.....
