Raining and my TLS is freaking out

issues:
  • I was sitting at my computer doing some coding when my alarm started going off.
  • Shut it off
  • went outside and the car would unlock from the remote but no lock at first
  • started it and let it run for a minute, shut it off
  • it then let me lock it and rearm with the remote.
  • about 20-30 minutes later it started going off again.
  • this time I removed the horn/brake fuse before my neighbors crucify me.
  • locked and rearmed
  • went off again
  • went outside and unlocked it, started it and noticed that the MID said the rear door was open when it was not.
  • tested the sensor by pushing it (all the way) with my finger - no change, still marked as open.
  • I figured the battery might be dying so i got dressed and prepared to head to the store to get another.
  • got to the car and the it wasn't responding to the remote (no unlock or lock)
  • unlocked it with the key
  • closed the door and the car made 2 unlock motions (heard the actuators)
  • put the key in and turned to ACC and the car started freaking out, the dash, nav and headlights all started flickering randomly
  • started the car and the flickering stopped
  • stopped the car and the key was stuck
  • started the car but couldn't get out of park
  • stopped the car and the key was still stuck, after about 10 minutes of shimmying the wheel i managed to remove the key.
  • the remote started working again but only for unlock (no lock because it still thinks the back door is open)
  • locked it with the key manually

other weird shit:
  • the headlights are always on no matter the position the switch is in.
  • Also earlier today my pass side mirror adjusted itself on its own (just went to some random position.

Any ideas? I hope it's not electrical gremlins. Should also not it's raining pretty hard and has been all day.

I had the exact same problem. Had water leaking onto my MICU ( fuse box drivers side kick panel )
Leak was coming from windshield.
One solution I found was to lock your drivers seat belt when not in the car. For some reason it stopped triggering the door ajar alert.
Got windshield fixed and eventually my troubles went away. Guess it dried out.

Its too much of a coincidence that it's raining here pretty hard and I'm pretty much have the same issues you did, particularly the fact that its my RR door as well.

Thanks for this.

I drove it over to my parents house and put it in their garage with a fan in the driver's footwell, guess we'll see.

I felt the rug near the dead pedal and it was pretty wet, more than what should be there if the door was held open for a bit in the rain and more than from just wet shoes so I'm leaning toward an actual leak. I'll be taking all that plastic off tomorrow to hunt it down.

If you take your A-pillar off, push up against the edge of the windshield to see if there is any movement between the adhesive and glass.

My was about 4 inches down from the top of the windshield on the drivers side.

Also, there is a drain which is right above the fusebox ( stupid design IMO ) which could also be clogged. Removing the cowl will get you a better view of where water drains into.

so putting it in my parents garage friday night with a fan in the footwell seemingly worked out, saturday morning it wasn't doing anything crazy except for the RR door ajar message on the MID. By Sunday it was completely dry and not even doing that anymore. Sunday I tried to do some investigating but couldn't get my damn wiper arms off so I checked the drainage via the wheel well (removed the well shroud) and that looked good with no blockage i could see.

I tried to get my A pillar cover off but couldn't (I felt like I was going to crack it), got frustrated and stopped. I figured I'd leave it and if it happens again I'd just get the windscreen resealed. Well, low and behold I'm now at work (30 minutes from home) and it just started pouring and the alarm went off again...RR door warning. URGH.

Right now, i have my driver's seat belt clicked in so it stops the RR door warning, (which is really weird, btw). How many times am I going to be able to do this rain & dry routine before my multiplex comp is completely beyond?

I had my multiplex go in my 02 Civic some years back and I ended up just getting the whole unit on ebay.

Goodluck in finding the leak. All the interior panels on the TL are super easy to get off. Lol it's too bad you got frustrated with that. The front pillars just pull the tab out and remove the push pin, or bolt can't remember which it is and it comes right out. It's the tab that says side curtain airbag.

It was also the fact that I have been breaking interior trim tabs and pieces all my life and then my interiors end up looking like shit cause nothing fits back the way it was. As I got older and my cars got nicer i promised myself that I'd take the pieces off as little as possible. I'm not gentle with things

Once you remove that a-pillar you will get a better view of where this could be coming in from.

The harder part is possibly removing the SRS insert on the pillar.
Once that is out, you can pull on the pillar and it'll snap out.

Isn't that seat belt trick weird? I almost ended up sleeping in car that one night when I had this problem
I was driving from PA to Queens ( staying at my friends house) through a torrential downpour and there was no way I was going to leave my doors unlocked.

Where are you located btw? If you are close I can possibly lend a hand

I'm going to try giving it another go after work. Unfortunately I have to drive home first, which should be fun considering it's spazzing out again. ABS and VSA are now out.

don't feel bad. My ABS, VSA, & /!\, are on too.
I replaced my lower ball joint and when putting the speed sensor in the wheel, I didn't seat the knuckle ring.
Which one I drove it broke the abs sensor and I believe it messed up my wheel bearing encoder.
( according to my troubleshooting, the problem is the encoder )

I have a knuckle w/ bearing to replace it but now I have 5 week old twin boys so,........who knows when i'll get to it.

That sucks.

Well, I was making the a pillar a lot harder than it had to be. Got it off but I see no glass movement.

I think I'm just going to remove the multiplex unit and hose the front end of the car and see if i see water. I can see this is going to be a wild goose chase.

Did you gently push up on the glass to see if it has movement?

If you do plan on replacing the MICU hope your hands are small to remove it.

It's a bitch to get out.

my next step would be to have someone run a hose around the door seal and windshield while your in the car looking up at the MICU to see where it leaks from.

at least in my case if it evident the windshield needed to be resealed.
I was able to slide my cc through it but definitely there should NOT be any play.

Here is a pic of where water entered through my windshield.
Red Square identifies it.
also, you can see where the a-pillar is moist from the water

Here is a pic of the MICU I purchased and ended up not needing it. ( problem dried out, windshield re-sealed )

If you look at the plug that is squared in red. You can jump those two wires to get B-can codes.

Get a piece of wire and place butt connectors on each end.
Connect the wires to that connection and turn the car on to ACC ( I think it was ACC... definitely NOT ON )

You will then see codes appear on the MID display.

They'll start with a B, then press select to cycle to the next code.
