Quick Oil Question
I know there are many opinions but overall, is there a link to look at or can you tell me at what mileage you guys switch to a mix or full synth. oil or do you just run non-synth? I'm pushing 8K and not sure how long it takes for the rings to seat ect on these cars. - Thanks.

The down side is $8.99 a quart verses $3 for good reg oil. The up side is increased protection with 6-7k change intervolts. I just changed the oil yesterday $40 for oil and $11 for a s2000 filter (slight larger/better filter material, but fits perfectly) I think they are cheaper too since you get them from Honda.

I personally change my own oil after the warranty has expired, using motorcraft syn blend 5W20 (i like to stick with acura's recommendation), so before that it's all the oil from dealer.
I strongly suggest you read Road Rage's post.

He's a pro in oil.
A general summary/conclusion according to him, for most people, synthetic is not necessary and it's a waste of money, using the MID oil change schedule and you will be fine. The big deal of synthetic is longer oil change interval, but since i stick with MID regular is fine for me.
The only way to see the condition of your engine besides taking it apart, is do a used oil analysis, and those UOA has shown that those cheap dino is doing pretty good at 6k - 8k, not sure about 10k. The Royal Purple thing is way too expensive for whatever performance it offered according to UOA.
Of course it's your decision.

dude, some cars come from the factory with full synthetic...including the rdx from acura, corvette, porsche 911, the list goes on and on....
the bottom line is you can switch at your first oil change...you car is past any seating and machining of any surfaces at that point....

Your original oil is a break-in oil from Honda. Keep it in the car until the MID gets <15%, then you can put in any oil your comfortable with. I use Mobile 1 and Mobile 1 filter because I feel my TL-S is worth it. Advance Auto was running a special of 5 qts Mobile 1 with filter for $30.00. Great deal if they are still running it.

I ran the Honda oil in my car until the MID got to about 5%, then switched it out for Amsoil, and an EaO filter. It's been running great, no problems to speak of I change the oil and filter about every 14k, even though Amsoil recommends intervals up to 25k, of normal driving. I could stretch it to 25k, but nah, every 14k works well for me. Just put in 1)whatever you can afford, and 2)whatever your personal preferance is. Just take care of your car, or it will get pissed off at you, and leave you stranded somewhere. Nobody wants that.

As of right now I did the full Mobil 1 change....M1 5w20 full synthetic $22 at wal mart and an M1 Filter 12 or 13 at the local autozone. Next change is up to Amsoil but that wont be for another good 10k or so.

You're completely safe going to synthetic at your first oil change. The engine is 90% broken in in the first 20 minutes of life. Just make sure not to baby it, drive it completely normal during break-in. Rings are fully seated at your mileage and if by some chance they aren't they never will seat regardless of oil used.
