Quick 3rd brake light question

Hi there,
First of all let me say that I will never be able to mod my car like most of you guys but I still love seeing the pics and reading the reviews. Very motivating.

I have a quick question and YES, I did search first!

I have an '06. The 3rd brake light cover on the rear ceiling has "bubbles" in the fabric that covers the housing, like it is not stretched tightly. Not sure when it started happening, as I have only had this car 2 months.

Any ideas on how to fix? Can I remove the cover and re-secure the fabric. If so, what do I use?

Thanks

You can use fabric adhesive. I have the same problem, but I'm too lazy to fix it. You could also try the dealer if you're still in warranty.

I see this a lot more in the 04s, but, depending on your VIN, there's a bulletin about this. Sorry I don't have a PDF for you to actually see it. I just copied the info off of ISIS.

Service Bulletin 06-024

Applies To: 2004–05 TL – ALL
2006 TL – From VIN 19UUA6...6A000001 thru 19UUA6...6A061378

High Mount Brake Light Cover Material Comes Loose
(Supersedes Service Bulletin 06-024, dated August 23, 2006, to update the information marked by the black
bars)

SYMPTOM
The material on the high mount brake light cover is
loose or bubbling.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The adhesive was improperly applied during
manufacturing.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the high mount brake light cover.

Given that yours is an 06, there should be no issue having this replaced under warranty. Only takes a minute for them to replace. They probably won't stock it, and they'll need your interior trim code to order the part. I'de say take it in and get it done for free

Great info!
Thanks everyone, I am due to take my baby in to the dealer soon anyway and did not know there was a service bulletin about this issue.

Thanks again.

arkitect, FYI...

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/im-going-wish-me-luck-704925/

The dealer replaced my entire high mount housing without even batting an eye. If you're still under warranty go get it fixed!

Just a quick note on this thread.. I have the same problem with my 04 TL. I did not want to use any adhesive becaus I am worried about discoloration. I simply take a microfiber towel and run it across that fabric a few times to generate some static electricity. That will cause the fabric to stick to the light cover for a month or so, repeat process as necessary. Just my two cents
