One more annoying problem with my TL-S....

Without sounding like a whiny bitch....how prevalent is the tint scratching issue? I'm starting to notice it on my car with less than 7,000 miles. I like to think I'm pretty anal with the cleanliness of my car. How the hell can there be something on the INSIDE abrasive enough to result in the streak-like scratches on the whole window.

I'm pretty sure the tint on my TL-S is factory...any chance this is covered by warranty?

tint is never factory, the only tint that is, is on SUV's on the rear windows since they are not regulated to the standards that cars are. Tint on the TL scratches because of the window design. There is a wiper that can gather dirt on it on the inside of the window, once it gets dirt on it, it scratches the tint on the inside with the dirt. Moleskin will help aid the problem of scratching.

Sometimes sand can get caught between the glass and the wiper inside the door. This sand will scrape the window as it passes up and down. If the sand granule is large enough, it will even scratch the glass itself. I have one or 2 scratches in the actual glass of my driver rear window that follows the window path (straight up and down).

Someone finally realizes that SUV's have different tint laws than cars.

Really?? I learn something new everyday. I know I bought my car used, but I could have sworn the identical TL-S that was sitting on the lot at the dealer (back in Nov.) had the same tint as mine (and it was brand new).

Anyway, I guess that eliminates the possibility of warranty coverage. I'll be looking into this moleskin stuff.....

Some dealerships may tint their cars, Autoway Honda in my area has a large number of new Hondas tinted on their lot

in dallas, its pretty standard to have a dealer installed tint option...mine came with a life time warranty for the original purchaser, i had it replaced already during the first year as it scratched pretty early on with scratches on all 4 windows...

Tinted glass has to be an option from the factory. Even the Acura dealership has a demo of their special 'heat blocking' glass that's tinted in their showroom. Maybe is just a 'southern' thing.

Glass that is tinted from the factory does not have film on it, it is put into the glass when the glass is made. What you probably are referring to is probably a dealer installed option. The only factory tint that is heat blocking is found on higher end luxury cars (MB S Class, BMW 7 series), when you look at the windshield it will appear purple in color.
