Question on Stop Leak Products for Trans and Engine
Hey guys, 2007 TL-S 120Kmiles. Took it to the dealer for a spark plug issue blowout- anyway they fixed that and told me a few things they could do. A couple of which he said are minor Engine Oil Leaks. I figure I'll just check the oil every once in a while because the expense was at like 1500+ for each repair( oil pump gasket replacement and Crankcase rear main seal) .
Tranny also has a leak (Replace transmission right axle seal). Was quoted $350 to fix. Any thoughts on using Stop leak products such as TransX on this vehicle?
Just wondering as I have no expierence with these products but saw it on a website saying that TransX actually helps your tranny run better overall and removes guck and sludge. Any thoughts would be great on TransX or engine oil stop leak products- if its worth it or not. Also they said all the leaks were minor so I'm not trying to spend a ton.
Thanks!

Yet another main seal leak...Have you had the power steering safety recall done on your TL? If so, when/mileage?
If the leaks aren't putting any oil on the ground overnight, I wouldn't worry about it. Just continue to monitor. Sometimes leaks like these stop as mysteriously as they started.

Read the recall procedures (TSB 08-016). They jack the transmission assembly so the rear mount can be moved out of the way... Just a theory of mine. So far, every main seal leak I've encountered on this forum had recently had the PS safety recall done. There's a note warning about jacking it too far. Does that prove anything? Maybe, maybe not...

For what it's worth as a data point, I also had my rear main seal replaced under warranty after the PS safety recall. It was many months after, though. I can't remember off the top of my head.

Seems like a legit concern. However I'm definetly out of warranty at this point. Anyone able to get Acura to cover that w/o warranty?
- some additional info is that i had a sparkplug go loose a couple weeks ago and rip out while i was driving. tore some threads in the head. Tried to get Acura to cover it but couldnt, bc I was at 120K miles almost and they recommended changing them at 105- which I didnt do. Regardless shouldnt have came out...IMO..They were able to tap the whole without replacing the engine head or removing the head.
Anyhow- I'm looking to see if using Stop Leak products would work for either of these two issues (engine/tranny leaks as described above) .. Any insight would be great!

I've never used StopLeak on a transmission, but it did work on my ex's Corolla when the head gasket went. But it's NOT a permanent solution if you ask me (only use it to get you back on the road while you save up to have the repair done correctly), and even though it did work, I wouldn't recommend using it. Spend the money and have it fixed properly rather than beating around the bush with additives like StopLeak.
