PS Pump Inlet Bolt Stripped

I am *trying* to do the ps pump o rings. 20 min job turned into 3+ hrs and multiple days.

1st off, is this crack in the hose bad? I don't seem to see any fluid leaking yet but not sure if it cracked due to pressure or when I took it off. And where can I buy another if serious?

2nd, how the hell can I get this bolt out????? I can barely fit a wrench in there, and of course the wrench just slips right off. Where can I buy another bolt if I can even get it off? (I think this is the M6-1.0x10mm)

Thanks a lot.

Extractor socket. I think those are 10mm.

On K24 p/s pumps I'm using a 1/4" ratchet for those. Six-point sockets of course.

NB: definitely don't reuse that bolt

Edit: I use a set of these:

How in the world do you have clearance with a ratchet? Everything I've seen is only done with a wrench...

Nevermind . I don't know how I'll be able to use those sockets with like 2" of clearance

1) that is a bad tear. even if it not leaking now, i'd get a replacement.
around 11 w/o shipping

2) i use an offset wrench to get that bolt but if the bolt is already very stripped you may need to remove pump (only 2 12mm bolts I think) and try to remove the bolt with lots of room.

new bolt if needed

Just unbolt the PS pump entirely, it'll give you a world of room to work with. Two 12mm bolts, one is in a sneaky location; you gotta fish the socket + extension thru the webs of the PS pulley.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll be replacing the hose soon. Still stuck on this damn bolt. Went and bought an offset set and it doesn’t fit (hits windshield fluid reservoir). Just rounding it more.

When I get the pump off what do I use to get it from there?

Super glad I bought both the extractor set and offset wrenches. Both were needed. One of the 12mm mounting bolts was very close to being rounded as well.

Got the o rings replaced but the whine continues. I feel like it's even worse now. Could the crack in the hose be causing the whine??? Flush the fluid? What else do I look for now? :/

That is a large tear. It could easily let in air that is one source of the whine. When you hear the whine, remove the plug on the reservoir and check (use safety glasses) if you see bubbles. I'd replace the tube.

BTW, did you bleed the system after working on the pump? I've used the method outlined below 3 times now and never had a whine after working on my pump.

Funny enough I just posted this over on the Accord forum in response to a similar-ish question:

The part of the p/s system that's under vacuum (negative pressure) is the section between the exit port on the bottom of the p/s reservoir and the pump. If you have an air leak here, the pump will suck in air. That's why Honda had that TSB for the older Accords that replaced the o-ring on the pump inlet with that new one that's red. The original o-ring wasn't making a proper seal and air was getting in.

The rest of the system does not need to be airtight.
