Problem after Lightweight Pulley and New Motor Mounts!!

I had to do the timing belt service on my car. I had the mechanic throw in a stock size Unorthodox pulley while this was done. All my motor mounts and tranny mounts were changed also since they were all broken. I just got the car back, the exhaust sounds deeper and the car feels sluggish. The mechanic said he reset the ecu so it has to relearn. Granted, but I don't understand why my exhaust would sound different with just the installation of a pulley. The car kinda sounds like a lawnmower and throttle response sucks. Any input anyone?

Any input anyone? One mechanic told me the belt may be off by a tooth. Another said it may be my valve timing. What could it be...or does it require time and it will quiet down to normal?

Check engine light just came on with the codes P0172 and P0174. Could it be he forgot to plug a sensor back in or something?

It is not both, it is rich in both banks (02sensor 1 & 2) Lean is P0130 (front bank)

I've gotten that: "too lean code" before once. It's happened twice with owning the car for one year. Is this a bad code? I mean it's went away the next day each time. No issues I've found otherwise.

Sounds like you might have a bad O2 sensor. For some reason they go bad real easy in the Tl's. but it don't hurt to check the belt that it is not jumped a tooth. also depending on the miles you might want to change the plugs too. I find the Tl to get hot easy so change the thermo stat and bled it real good with some Acura coolant.

I did the plugs about 20,000 miles ago. Im going to take it back to the mechanic and have him check it to see if it jumped a tooth. I have a feeling the belt is causing these problems and codes. There was nothing wrong with the car before I did the timing belt. Figures.

The crank pulley r&r has nothing to do with the timing belt. The pulley comes off, the replacement goes on.

The crank pulley is running the Accessories not the cams, the cams run off the timing belt which is behind the crank pulley he replaced.

so is it safe to say those codes came up cuz the timing is off, or do I still need oxygen sensors? Im going to take it back tomorrow.

It is very unlikely that the 02 sensors went out at the same time the TB belt was done.

There have been reports from reputable Acurazine members stating that the timing belt *will* jump if a person uses the "starter bump" method to loosen the crank bolt.

This doesn't sound good. I hope the mechanic owns up to any damage during this and please make sure your not paying any extra.

Defintely a timing issue! Is there a "put put" sound coming from the exhaust? The valves can possibly be opening and closing at the wrong time. Take it back and let him fix it! Hopefully no valves touched any pistons. Either way, make him pay for any damage done. Hopefully there is none and he can get your timing back on point.

I would say ur sensors are being triggered by the off timing, IF this is the issue. My $.02.

I'm not sure about the codes, but seeing that he messed with the transmission...could it be the tensioner? At one point, mine was missing all together... no idea.

Ok, got the car back and everything is back to normal. I made him redo it. But my butt dyno doesn't seem to feel much difference with the pulley. Does is take time for the ECU to adjust to feel anything.

^^^so wat was the problem? the lightwieght pulley will basically let the engine rev faster as you will not notice any tru gains, from what i hear. still want to do this mod tho.

No HP gains from stock size lightweight pulley.

The pulley is not about HP gain. Thus, the dyno might not reflect a gain.

The pulley is about dynamic weight loss. The dynamic weight loss is equivalent to removing 100 lbs from the car. And, a 100-lb reduction in weight is good for 1/10 reduction (one car length) in your 1/4 mile ET. It is equivalent to adding 10 HP to the car in terms of the performance improvement.

Don't worry much about stock size or undersize. The gains come from the lightweight, not from the diameter.

The pulley is about dynamic weight loss. There is a weird, inexplicable phenomenon that happens when gaining performance via weight reduction. I can not explain how or why this phenomenon occurs! But from my experiences with removing weight from my car (from small chunks to big chunks), the phenomenon is real. When gaining performance improvements derived from weight reduction, you will feel *less* g-force after the weight reduction mod. Therefore, do not use the sensation of increased g-force (aka, Butt Dyno) to evaluate the performance improvements from the UR Pulley... it won't be there.

This inexplicable phenomenon is "at play" when people say "It revs-out quicker but doesn't feel quicker". I read this comment often in regards to the pulley. I agree that it does rev quicker. However, I do not agree with the attitude in which it is stated. It is implied that "yes, it revs quicker but the car is not quicker." Now, think about this for a second. How can the engine rev quicker without the car gaining the respective MPH too ??? The transmission gearing did Not change. It is quicker.

Do Not use the Butt Dynometer to measure the performance improvements from your TL Diet (click here)
