Fluid replacement requirements

After performing the 50k service, the service advisor recommended having the following flushes performed soon: engine, transmission, power steering, and fuel -- at a cost of about $700. Is this legit or was he just trying to secure 'make work' for his department?

$700? Good god. I'll take these one by one.

The engine doesnt need to be flushed, at all.

It would probably be good to do the transmission fluid change, if it's never been done. You can do this yourself, it's very easy, and can be done with basic hand tools. You'll need 12 quarts of the tranny fluid of your choice.

You can change the power steering fluid as well, it's not difficult.

The fuel system doesn't really need to be cleaned either, unless there is a problem. If you want to clean it, you can buy a can of Seafoam at many auto parts stores and put some of it in the fuel tank. It's not that expensive, about $10 if I recall correctly.

You could change the tranny fluid, power steering fluid and the Seafoam in the fuel tank for under $150 easily.
