Precat Installation Issues
Precat Installation Issues
Hey guys, i read around the forum and everything, but it seems like nobodys having this issue but me. I'm trying to take the old precats out to put in the rv6 ones I purchased awhile ago. Right from the start i've been having issues with the bolts stripping. The bolts seem to be really rusted onto the stud, and I've been having a really hard time removing them. I haven't even removed one, because everytime i try to use the 12 ratchet on it, the bolt strips. I tried an air ratchet, but it doesn't even move. Tried vice grips, and it still won't budge at all (furthermore stripping the bolt). Well anyone else that has done this could you give me any tips? I don't have access to an impact gun, but it seems like that's the only way from what i've read. I can't imagine how i'm gonna do the back side for the rear delete. Anyways long story short, bolts keep stripping no matter how much pb blaster I spray. Do I need to take it to an exhaust shop?
edit: I read about dremeling out the bolt, is that my only option? Will that ruin the stud?

6-point sockets for a start, not 12.
Air/impact tools are a life saver, but if you've got to muscle it, figure a way to gain leverage with a breaker bar if you can.
Have not done this mod, so not too much specific help.

Those self locking nuts look like a PITA...
I'd try in this order.. Penetrating Fluid, Heat, Drill.. Or just say screw it and use the drill.. just be careful not to strip the bolts running off the head.

I got 7 of the 8 out. Some of them the studs came out with them. Last one is stripped so badly even the bolt extractor won't work on it. But most likely i'll try to give it a shot tomorrow, losing daylight. Tried heat too, it just wont budge.
