Power steering pump failing, again..

These don't last any length, do they.... Noise is back and the system has that foaming problem, again. It comsumes ps oil as well as leaks some. Yes, new o-ring is installed.

Anyone try the Autozone lifetime pumps? The A1 cardone seems hit n miss...

By any chance on the orig. PS pump did you do a full overhaul of replacing seals and o rings as a possible solution before buying aftermarket?

I had similar problem with mine, and got a mechanic to redo all internal seals, and sure enough one was so flat and brittle that was the source of my noice/leaking.

I thought that the Cardone pumps were lifetime warranty? and what cost vs. the OEM pump? Most Cardone parts from my local parts store are lifetime. The Cardone web site says if a Cardone inline filter is used, then the Cardone PS pump is warranty lifetime. I have a Cardone inline filter on my Chevy truck, but a Magnefine filter on my RDX PS line.

I was stupid enough to throw away orig pump... my other half was going to rebuild it and keep it for me. Both a1 cardone pumps made noise. One had chinese bearings, the other had japanese. Seems like lack of consistency.

My boyfriend checked on oem pump price with Tim who advertises here on the site. It was just under $300. He is going to tackle my front lower control arm rebuild, then deal with this next. He is getting some tools called pucks so he can press out old parts at home on his press.

How about pulling a pump from a salvage yard?

Where is your BF sourcing the "pucks" from? Would be interested to know where he found a puck for the inside diameter (73mm-74mm). I'm about to do my bushings as well and have yet to find something for the inside diameter.

^This, look for a used pump, then just rebuild it just in case with new seals and o rings. Its a way cheaper alternative than purchasing a brand new one.

Do it!!! even if you do not have a bubbles or leaking or whine. Mine is super quiet when rotating the steering wheels plus I am confident my PS pump will last another 100k

I may just buy new, had enough.

As for the pucks, he does lots of front end work. In addition, he engineers car parts and makes several types. He's actually going to be putting in aftermarket bushings in my car. If they fit and work well, i'll post pictures. He's excited for me. He's even considering doing installs for the locals once he has tl tool stuff.

Your choice, but chances are a used one from a salvage yard wouldn't even have to be rebuilt. Good luck with whatever path you choose!

And FYI, I found a 2 1/8" socket at Tractor Supply for $15 that is perfect to press out/in the compliance bushings. It's also possible that a 2" galvanized plumbing coupler would work, but it's a little small and will put most of the pressure on the rubber. It's probably fine for pressing out the old bushings, but not sure if it might damage new bushings. Please post in the compliance bushings thread after it's all done, will be interested to hear about the aftermarket bushings...
