Power steering...fairly high effort normal?

Hey guys...had my car for almost a year now, love it, but have a few issues.

It seems that the power steering requires alot of effort to be turned when the car is idling...seems in order to get proper assist, I have to nudge the gas a bit....I had the dealer look at it while the car was still under warranty, and they said it was normal, that because it's a "sporty" car, that's just par for the course. I sort of wrote it off....it's not a big deal or anything, but occasionally in certain situations I am literally like WTF where's my assist. It doesn't seem to be normal. The car is pretty much flawless other than that, occasionally a rough idle for 10 seconds or so upon startup, and the damn freaking summer tires that ruin the ride and give me the vibration.

Tried a search but didn't really get much help.

The steering I know in my TL-S is stiff. My son commented about how hard it was to steer. You can steer his truck with one finger. So, I'd say it's normal.

Lol, thanks. Yeah, DEFINITELY not a 1 finger setup...although like I said, it seems to get easier if I nudge the throttle. The dealer said it's normal, and they've gone above and beyond (replacing my battery for free when I didn't even realize it was weak, fixed a blown speaker and a rattle outside the warranty) so as much as I'll get flamed for saying it I trust them.

It sure is different than the Yukon I use to tow the boat, that's 1 finger....lol. I actually prefer easy and luxurious to sporty and stiff, but I love my car regardless. It sure looks good.

You'll get used to the stiffer steering. Just about all cars I've owned steers better when there is a little movement, that's normal.

My steering is also very stiff, I at first thought it was in my head, but when anyone else drives my car they comment on it (except the dealer who says its normal). While I like the sporty feel I don't like how hard it is to turn the wheel, especially when at a stop. When I brought it up to the dealer they said it was normal for the car 07 TL-S. I am planing on having the Power Steering Fluid flushed, is there anything else I can do to make it easier to turn the wheel? I am still under warrantee so if they are any tests to ensure everything is working properly I would appreciate it.

My 2008 TL is also very stiff. I compared it with the loaner 2010 TSX. The TSX steering is 10 times lighter! The dealer checked the steering pump pressure and replaced it. It did not do any better. it must be a design flaw. The TL is so hard to turn and my arms are getting tired after daily drive.

My truck with a 34" tall by 12" wide tire turned 10x lighter than the TL.. but come on, your arms are getting tired from driving?

No, it can be bad, and it's frustrating. I remember once a cop made me turn around from the shoulder of the road, so imagine me pulling a U-turn on a road and I sorta had to make a 3 point to turn go the other way, without going off the road on the other side. There was traffic behind me...At the crucial moment when I went from drive back to reverse(to back up and literally complete the turn), it did it's bullshit and I had to strong arm it (there was maybe 10% assist)...I'm not having that in a car like this.

That's understandable if you push the power steering pump to it's max, which isn't good for it. I've noticed when I max out the steering that it's really hard for it to "recover." I've gotten a good habit now where I don't max the steering out, leaving about 20% before it maxes out. Seems to help a lot although it shortens the turning radius a little

The turning radius is already shitty, and it's ridiculous how little assist there can be sometimes for this caliber of car..I don't care how "sporty" it's supposed to be...I've driven junkers you can steer with your pinkie in the situation that I literally had to strong arm my car... unacceptable.

It hasn't been giving me trouble lately, however.

The other reason the 2010 tsx steering is lighter is because it is electronic power steering.

Lol. Reminds me of the recent thread where some are having trouble pushing the doors open to their stops.
