A possible transmission problem.
I have a 04 5AT with 45K miles.
I started noticing this problem when I was around the 42K mark.
The problem is when I accelerate very slowly, I feel a slight pulsing vibration in the gas pedal only in 3rd gear, right before the car is about to shift into 4th gear, around 2K rpms. The pulsing lasts for maybe 2 seconds at the max. Sometimes the pulsing effect is more noticeable then other times.
I can reproduce this problem almost any time, but it is subtle and only the driver will be able to feel this on his right foot.
I have watched the rpms when this pulsing occurs, and they do not move at all. This leads me to believe that the engine is okay, and the problem could be in the transmission.
I am not certain of anything yet, I am waiting to get an appointment with the dealer when I have some free time. But this sounds like it could potentially be a big problem.
I’ll update this thread when I am able to get the dealer to reproduce this problem, which could be very difficult.
Anyone else notice something similar in their cars?

Now I'm getting more worried that Acura has not fixed the TL AT issue in 3rd gen.
See this thread:

Mine still exhibits the shudder/lugging between 2nd and 3rd, but not consistently. Same RPMs as you.
I did leave it at Pohanka for 3 days and they said they could not reproduce it.

mine is going to Acura on the 11th for the exact simptoms. They told me that they had another 04 with the same problem and they had to replace the tranny.
I hate to say it, but I think the tranny problem is back!

I went to Pohanka Friday evening, and got the Service Mananger involved. We test drove with the senior tech and could not replicate the issue, even though it appeared during the morning drive the same day.
They did do a triple drain/fill on the tranny, and drained the tranny fluid through a coffee filter. No evidence of anything nasty, nor on the tranny magentic drain plug.
I've put about 40 miles on the car since then, and the issue is very reduced, but I have felt it at least once.
Good to luck to you on your service.

I work for an Acura dealership in Maple Shade New Jersey. I'm not a tech, but I'm out in the shop quite a bit and I can say that we've had a few 3G TL's in for trans replacement. Not as many as the second generation TL's but more than I think there should be. Makes me wonder because I own an 04 TL with 40K miles. Infact the only 06 model that hasnt been in for a trans replacement yet is the 06 RL.
