Poor running 2005 TL
Folks, got an interesting problem. Car has 233k miles on it and has a rebuilt automatic transmission about 7 k miles back. Wife let car run out of gas twice within the last few months.
Have noticed car feels sluggish off the mark and while driving. Asked my wife if she put regular gas in the car. She says no. Has done this on a few locations .
Thought about crap in the fuel filter being picked up from the bottom of the tank, but read this post that's its in the gas tank and doesn't need changing.
At 233 k should it be changed? Is the car being starved of gas?
Someone mentioned fuel pressure. Can I check pressure myself. with a cheap gauge?
Anything else to look for . There are no engine check lights on.
No mods to the car what so ever.
Regards, Roy

Hey sujitroy, "Have noticed car feels sluggish off the mark and while driving". I'm not sure I understand, exactly what you mean here. For starters, I would check, and see what kind of mileage your getting, currently. If your average MPG is down, markedly, from past experience, and or EPA averages, that reduction, would signify a problem. As far as "Thought about crap in the fuel filter being picked up from the bottom of the tank", those (Filter Socks) are pretty robust, and unless there is a tremendous amount of trash in the tank, the filter sock, normally, should not be an issue. I think, if the filter sock was the problem, the engine would stumble badly, or die completely, at higher engine RPM demands. Running the car, with extremely low fuel levels, especially, running it, completely out of fuel, is never a good thing. Fuel, is what COOLS the pump. Driving any car, with an in-tank pump, low on fuel, will cause the pump to fail, prematurely! Have you checked the condition, of the plugs? Their (BURN PATTERN) should be a good indication, of how your engine is operating.
