Poor, poor Pontiac Gran Prix

Friday night I'm on my way home on a 4 lane surface street and this kid in a Pontiac Gran Prix (model unknown) comes whipping up thru traffic to get next to me at the light. I'm on the cell with a coworker and a customer so I sort of ignore him. (Plus it is raining.) He gives it all he's got from the light, and I just casually tail alon. I hang up, and at the next light he ends up next to me again so this time I say WTF. Not normally a racer, but hey why not. I put my foot into it at the green and see this Pontiac going backwards down my left side. At 70 I back off and here he comes all pissed and hanging next to me. Why not again...I stomp it and leave him for good. I was in Auto shift, VSA on! I don't know what model it was, but I copied this from Edmunds.com ("GTP models come equipped with a supercharged version of the 3800 V6 that makes a whopping 240 horsepower. Traction control works in conjunction with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, which include beefy rotors and state-of-the-art calipers for better stopping ability. Power is put through the front wheels via a standard four-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission. The GTP gets a heavy-duty version that allows drivers to pick "normal" or "performance" shift modes.")

01 CL-S San Marino Red/Black, K&N drop in, no nav, rear wing, otherwise stock thus far, has an appetite for Bavarian cars.

i'd say it was a GT model. The GTP is quicker off the line if the driver doesn't peel out. (Then it's just bogs and well, sucks.) The GTP and CL-S are pretty even on performance. (discussed several times here before).

None the less, nice kill.

I might have been a GTP, considering the rain he would have done nothing but spin if he tried to mash it under 50 mph. Trying to go fast on wet roads is pointless.
