Hello All - I just picked up a 05 Satin Silver on Ebony w/Nav a few days ago and loving it. I sold the biggest piece of crap I ever bought in my life (2003 Mercedes Benz E500 Sport) and bought the TL after test driving the RL.

My question is why does the passenger airbag off light come on with the the passenger seat empty or occupied? I am referring to the "Off" light that is next to the hazard switch. The Off light comes on for a few seconds after starting the motor and than goes out whether a passenger is in the seat or not. Is this normal? I could not find the answer in the owners manual or on this site.

Sounds as if it's performing a self-test at start up. Same as all other indicator lights in the instrument cluster. If it doesn't come on at start up, then you would need to investigate further to determine why.

 

mine does the same when someones not there, comes on then stays off

 

Does it do the light come on and back off even if an adult sits in the passenger seat?

As TL Fantasy explained, the light will come on briefly at engine startup as self test and turn off (with or without a passenger).

I remember reading about it in the car manual for the 05 TL.

However, if the passenger is less than a certain weight (it's in the manual), then the light will come on and stay on to alert both driver and passenger that the passenger side airbag is purposely being disabled.

In addition, the light can come if an adult passenger sits sideways in the seat even though they weight more than the minimum weight.

This is the best I can remember from reading the manual.

I think there is seperate light for passenger leaning to airbag deploy path. Side cut off light is on instrument panel.

If you see it carefully, Passenger airbag light on center and driver's airbag light on instrument panel lights on and turns off at same time after u start the car. This is normal testing procedure.
