Angry Passanger side rattle

OK I am starting to go crazy looking for this.

It doesn't happen all the time. Last night, went to get a movie, there was no noise at all on the way there, parked, got back in and there were squeaks and rattles all over the passenger side.

It sounds like it is comming from inside the door. I know the sounds can be deceiving.

I have pressed on everything to try to get it to stop while it is rattling. Upper window seal, seat belt (both on the seat and on the pillar) glove box, door handle, map pocket, window, moonroof, moonroof visor, door handle, removed sunglass holder, everthing I can see.

I can't stop this rattle if I cant find it. Can anyone give me any tips??

I know you said you looked at the map pocket. When you did, did you try to open it to the first position and leave it open? I find that sometimes my map pocket will rattle when it is closed fully. I had the dealer look at it once, they put felt on it and the rattle went away for a bit, but just recently it came back.

I too have this rattle. I thought it was the passenger side door. However...after letting someone drive my car around while I honed in on the sound...it was the glove box. Try holding and pressing in on the glovebox. The rattle goes away when I do that. If that doesn't work then maybe it is something in the door.

I've had the same problem with my TL. When you take it in to the dealer tell them that a friend of yours had the same problem, and he told you that the noise is coming NOT the side curtain airbags, but due to the hand rail and the piece that's holding in place which is rubbing up against it. I took my in three times for the same issue and the first two times they concluded that it was the side airbag and the way its placed in there, but after they serviced it I was still hearing the noise (small crickety sound( i don't know if crickety is a word). The third time they finally got it right. I hope this helps.

Sorry I can't comment on your specific rattle but rattles can be really tricky.

I swore up and down I had a door rattle in my last car (not my TL) and after tearing out everything in the door it turned out to be coming from the passanger side of the center console down near the passenger's feet. It was actually a heat shield over the exhaust system (outside the car) buzzing away at certain speeds. The sound was reflecting off of the passenger side window so that's where I thought it was. Have a passenger that is good at hunting rattles try and find it when you drive just to make sure you aren't being fooled.

The kicker was the rattle never happend when my wife was in the passenger seat. I thought she was blocking it from my ears and saying she couldn't hear it. Truth there was nothing to hear coming from the door and the was blocking the reflection.

So I guess the tip is take any rattle over on the other side of the car as potentially "bouncing" off of the passenger window. You would swear it is in the door. Happy hunting
