Question P0174 code, need new O2 sensor? How to install?

ok guys, today, 10 days before I have to renew my tag (and get my FIRST emission inspection since buying my car in March, I got my SECOND CEL.

First time, as an APP sensor.

Today, it was business as usual, until I looked down and saw my CEL light.

This was my reaction:

So far, I've read that it could be anything from shitty gas to a valve adjustment.. Does my 2004 auto TL have a MAF sensor, and if so, should I try to clean it first?

If it's a "lazy O2 sensor", how do you replace it?

No MAF's for us. Google says its the #2 bank (so the rear one) and it's probably the primary or top one. Once you get to it, it's not too hard to replace with an adjustable wrench.

negative, bank 2 is the front. Bank 1 is on the head with cylinder 1 (rear).

99% sure it's not the cat...

Are you sure there were no other codes in addition to P0174?

First thing I'd to is reset the code and see if you get another MIL. If you get another MIL, get the codes read again (Autozone will do it for free and give you print outs).

Here's the Service Manual info:

Thank you kind sir.

The CEL went away on it's own. Car is driving fine. I filled up with better quality gas, thought that might have been a factor. I shall do an ECU reset next.

Slight bump here....have this code with my newly purchased CPO'd 07' TL-S. I believe this is covered, but in the CPO warranty it mentions that O2 sensors are NOT covered. Is it possible for the O2 sensor(s) to become fouled due to these bank/fuel system issues? Just trying to cover my basis before I do battle with the dealership.

Yes, I do believe O2 sensors can fail due to unfavorable fuel conditions occuring in the respective bank. If the dealership finds other faulty sensors that deal with A/F ratio then it shouldn't be hard to argue your case.

So what ended up happening to your P0174 code?

Hi, did you ever figure out what was causing the P0174 code? My 06 just threw that code today. I cleared it hoping it wouldn't come back. Maybe it's fuel related. I just refueled a day ago. The temperature also dropped down to 7 degrees F this morning.

There is a TSB for this. It states that the PCM system needs to be updated. I recently took my car to the dealership to get timing belt serviced and it was $60 to have it done for me. Outdated PCM system causes vehicle to run lean. This may be your issue
