Recently picked up a 07MRP Type-S w/135k on the clock. 1 owner with good maintenance records. Drove her home from MD (14hrs with a 3hr stop to see my mom) with no issues. On my last leg of trip I got gas from somewhere. I don't remember because I was so exhausted I just needed a break from driving so it wasn't at my usual QT rest stops. Anyways I filled up and within next 3hrs I was home Veterans day 2019 at 12:01am lol. So i go to work next day no problem. 15 minute ride. Come home no biggie. Next morning I'm driving to work....Boom! P0171 & P0174 my stomach dropped. Long story short after reading up on causes I couldn't help but think it was bad gas. I did change the O-rings on the power steering pump because it sounded like shit when I started the car cold. So i ran the tank empty, put in Lucas Injection cleaner and filled up with 93. Drive car for 2 days & Codes and CEL went away. Today Car passed GA emissions and i got my tag and title. I read all about valve adjustments and 02 sensors and just didn't want to deal with that type of negativity in my life.
So anyone out there going through this it may not be as serious as you think. Especially if you have maintained your TL and not beat her into the ground. I believe my issue truly was crappy highway gas in the middlenof nowhere.
You are right. I did some observations and test for a while. It appeared that emmision codes were thrown only in 2 situations:
1. when I fill up with 95octane at station located near supermarket;
2. when i ride in jams and have no chance for more aggressive ride.
Ran into this problem with my 07 TL-S 6MT. Updated PCM and never had it reappear. This is a known issue and a service bulliten was issued in july 2011, This is specific to the Type S models: see information below:
