Oval inset in rear view mirror?

I bought my 2005 TL new, and never saw this oval in the middle of my inside mirror. I turned the auto button on and off. Still there. Any idea?

It's the fluid inside. I had it happen. Have to replace. I would suggest putting a plastic bag or two around it, until you can remove it. It could leak all over interior.

Thanks for posting these links. I put a bag over it for now. Hope it don't actually leak though!

I removed everything except the mirror, as i'm trying to pry it, but afraid to crack windshield or knock metal mount off. New mirror on order, supposed to be in tomorrow. For now, i bagged it and have a towel on the console in case it leaks. I would think it's a sealed unit, but doesn't seem to be the case from posts i read in the above links.

Mine was a bitch to remove....the mirror ended up flying off and smacking my dashboard leaving a little chip in the plastic near the hazard button.

I had an issue with my mirror shaking around when I first got the car. I pushed it UP towards the headliner to snap it back in. You should slide it DOWN towards the dash side of the glass to get it off, don't try and pry it off or you may break something else. There is a metal clip that help keep the mirror clipped it, you may need a small screw driver to pop the clip to allow the mirror to slide down, but I am honestly not sure. I only slid mine back up and once it popped into place I have not touched it since.

For reference, item #10 in the link is the clip I am talking about: https://www.oemacuraparts.com/auto-p...mirror-06-scat

I didn't realize there was a piece of trim on the back of the mirror next to the glass. Once that was removed, a screwdriver pried against the spring-tab removed it.

I yanked away towards the windshield to get mine off. Don't pry away from window as you can damage the glass/clip.

replace the mirror before the fluid explodes all over your interior
