Oil change

My first oil change on my 08 TL is due pretty soon and I was wondering if I should go to the dealership or to EZ lube since I've been going over there for a few years.
Can only Acura reset the trip computer for the oil life or?

Thanks

read THE OWNER BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first service should be done about 6000 miles
and include inspection of several parts and things like lug nut tighness etc
Its also the time for you to report noises- rattles- anything funny with the car- get them on it now!

If you would let speedi type place touch your TL- rethink owning this car!!!!
Read the MANY MANY MANY horror stories of overtightened drain plugs that stripped out the threads in the pan or stretched the bolt threads so they broke!

Or the ever popular-- overtightened oil filter, crushings its rubber seal- making it very difficult to remove and making the possibilty of seal ring failure

Any of those can result in total loss of oil and total loss of engine

After the 1st time at dealer:
Change it yourself or find a good local honda/acura private shop- they are everywhere
Fill out the book and keep receipts for oil-filter- labor if shop performed work- that covers you for warranty purposes

The only way to do it right is to do it yourself. Dealers put the fresh minimum wage kids doing oil changes to start them out. You will get stripped drain plugs, double stacked filter O-rings, no filter change, or they just forget to put the oil back in. Every single experience with a quick lube or dealer resulted in somthing wrong with the car. My last experience I was forced to go out of town for work at the last minute, didn't have time to change it myself, took my $16 Amsoil filter and $40 worth of oil to them and when the next change came around I saw the old M1 filter still on it.

The original oil in the car is the break-in oil. It needs to stay in the car for a while to do it's job. I changed mine at 7500 miles and did it myself. Went synthetic at this point with Mobile 1. I do all my oil changes myself for several reasons. 1. I know the job is done right and 2. I enjoy working on my TL-S. You can get the crush washers from the dealer. I think they are 20 cents each. After the oil change reset the computer and your done.

Not 100% true. All I can say is that this is a likely scenario at any of those Sears or Jiffy lube joints. One benefit of going to the dealer is even if you just do oil changes...if anything ever went wrong that was directly linked to a faulty lube techs performance..youll be in better hands. I have done a more than a few engines and oil pans on Jiffy lubes account versus dealership mishaps.

I'm sure it's not true 100% of the time but are they going to have someone on your pay scale doing changes or the kid that gets 1/4 of what you get?

I've had a bad experience 100% of the time (the 2 times I payed someone). The dealer only filled it to the bottom line, I know, not a moral sin but annoying.

On the Murano, as I posted, the Iffy Lube stole my Amsoil filter and didn't even change the on that's on there. I'm glad it was a M1 filter and not a Fram.

I will agree that the dealer has a much better chance of doing it right.

Curry Acura in Scarsdale, NY left the oil drain plug on my 07 TSX loose and while I was driving the highway the oil light came out and the oil all poured out! I had to get it towed to the dealer. I traded in that TSX after numerous transmission/engine related issues and got the TL-S!
