Not replacing bad H2O sensor - long term effects??
‘04 TL 177k miles - my engine surges when i start it up cold and then when it’s warmed up it stops (and check engine light comes on) Mechanic told me I have a bad H2O sensor. I have a truck which i also drive a lot so the TL isn’t getting a ton of miles on it these days. I can live with way it surges until warmed up and with the warmer temps on the horizon I imagine this will occur less(?). So my question is if I don’t replace the sensor and continue driving it as is, what are the long term negative effects that could have on the car and / or damage it could cost? Many thanks!
it's about $90 for upstream ones and cheaper for downstream ones depending on what is bad. Its better to replace the O2 sensor than to leave it bad. You can foul spark plugs or ruin cats over time.
The attached is what the mechanic who cleared the code wrote. It appears to read: p2197 H02 (a/f sensor) B251 signal stuck lean(?) I should also mention that the car smells like gas in the cabin of the car pretty bad lately. Does that have anything to do with it? Many thanks again!
