noise when stopping and taking off

I started to notice a noise when I take off and when I slow down.... Usually I have music on so it would be impossible to detect. What is so peculiar about this noise is that it only happens when I am completely stopped and when I take off but always at the same speed it seems(between 1-2mph), It happens at a very precise moment so subtle that my hand would feel something very light and very short vibration but almost undetectable. Thats when I decided to shut off the radio and do a few tests.

After doing a few stops, I noticed subtle vibration would be accompanied by a noise( like a screw loose in a pc when you move it)....I also tried to isolate the transmission by putting it to neutral while slowing down to see if gears are involved, and the noise appeared nonetheless at that very specific point in time. This noise seems to come from under the shift console....

I don't know if this is a common noise with TL's btw mine is a 2005AT.
Any insight would be grateful....

while in park press the brake and listen near the center console, you should hear the click. This is the lockout so you can't move the shifter unless the brake is depressed.

csmeance, you hit the nail on the head.....I was able to reproduce that noise @ leasure just with the brake peddle while in park mode..... nonetheless i get that noise as described earlier while I brake AND while I take off from a full stop(no break involved) in drive gear, is that normal??!....also I would like to know if this noise is normal behaviour or not.

Thx again

This may be crazy, but is it possible you have something in the 2 cubbies under the radio? What about both the shallow and deep compartments under the center armrest? Cup holder? Maybe something fell between the shift channel and is rattling around from the G-Force?

Just throwing some things out there. To answer your question, no - this is not normal. I've never heard anything like that in my TL.

no, this is not something that happens sporadically...this is very specific and happens exactly how I described it in my 1st post....

I just noticed this while driving home tonight. It happens exactly as you say. When first accelerating and just as you come to a complete stop. After reading above, I went out and tested pressing on the brake pedal while in park...and sure enough I can reproduce the noise exactly just by pushing on and letting go of the brake pedal.

I would sure like to know what this is...Guess I'm going to have to take it in.

i told my dealer about it while i was having the recall done but they responded as usually by saying its normal. I mean its normal to a point but shouldnt make any noise while doing it. its the lock mechanisim that keeps the shifter from moving from park when the brake is not depresed. Im not noticing any abnormal behaviour while driving its just that its irritating sometimes. Maybe it needs lubrication i dont know...

go to another dealer with an 05 on the used car lot and drive it

Some cars do make noises- we have 2 abs test that run as you start to drive, those make a noise- and who knows what other symptoms of self test are run all the time!
Whats the owner manual got to say about the trans and brakes and conditions you describe?

Make a complaint file with acura 1-800-382-2238 x5 they will tell you to take
it in- but you have to start there to get corp help on funky probs
there may be TSB= tech service bulletin- that the shop gets from other dealers on strange problems and their cure

Gen 3 needs to get their car in for the recall to install new PS hoses
Its really important- and some cars get a new wiper motor
the rain season is just around the corner!!
