No power in 05 TL

I assume this is probably my battery dead for the 4th time in the last 6 months, but this time it doesn't make sense.

Left the car parked over night, and today I couldn't unlock the doors with the remote. I thought the remote was dead so I manually unlocked the car.

When I turn the key I get no sound, no lights, nothing. Is it just the battery or another problem?

Thanks

if you are going through batteries it sounds like your altenator is buying the farm....it isnt charging them

I haven't replaced the battery yet, it's just gone dead 4 times now. It's a common problem with Acura batteries.

1. Left music on and it died, was told to leave on key position one for it not to die

2. Left music on position one and it died

3. Transmission went, so left four way flashers on til flatbed arrived and it died

4. Today, went to car to find it dead

So I'm not sure if it's the altenator because the last 3 times it was boosted it held charge for some time afterwards.

However I'm just concerned that it's more than the battery - is that possible?

The stealership needs to take a look at it. If you are under warranty, I wouldn't be hesitant to take it there at all. But don't just let them replace the battery for you...that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Well I have no warranty, and considering the tranmission problem was only a couple weeks ago there's no way I'm towing the car to the dealership. I can't afford that.

I'll boost it and have an auto center test the altenator. I hope that's not the problem, the car was fine yesterday. Hopefully something was left on overnight to kill the battery but I can't imagine what I could have left on.

I think I'm going to get a Optima Red top 34/78 if the battery is the problem and it will fit my 05.

Yes, but it's more likely that it's just the battery that is no longer holding a charge due to dead cells.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Is there not an altenator light on this car if that was the problem?

Boosting it soon to see the problem, I'll remove the positive connector once started.

Is it an original battery? Mine was done after three years. Most O.E. batteries last about 36-60 months. The more load you use without it charging the shorter it will last.

I believe it was an OEM battery but I'm the second owner of the vehicle so not sure if it was original. If it was, it lasted a good time as my car is an 05.

Anyway I dropped a battery in from another car and removed the positive connector. Car didn't die.

Went to WalMart (I know..) and picked an Optima 35 up. I thought they only had the 34/78 when I looked at the site but was happy to see the 35. Didn't need any modification to fit, but the J mounts are slightly loose, I'll need a spacer for that.

Yup, works great.

$200+hst later, but there's a noticeable difference with this battery. Well worth it.

get the system tested for free at parts store
forcing the alt to recharge dead batteries can put the hurt on it
Its only made to maintain a charge in the batt- not revive it

I don't think there's a problem with the system. The battery was just bad. The car would've died if it was the alternator when I took the positive connector off.

Dude you don't think there is a problem, does not mean there is not a problem. People are simply saying go to an auto parts store and they will test it for you for free. You did make this post asking for help. Listen to them, every time someone makes a suggestion you ignore it.

Relax. If he had listened to post 2 & 4 he would have purchased an alternator that was not needed. Got to digest all the replies. Not all the replies you read on this Forum are correct, although at the time of posting, the writer believes them to be.

Not only is Turbonut spot on in the above post.. (thanks for that).

But you went and dug my old thread up because my last thread was closed and I didn't reply to your hit?

Thanks for breaking it down for me on what people were saying, but I read all of the replies. Me saying "I don't think there's a problem" isn't a reason to call me out.

What do you mean I ignore everyone's suggestions? That's not the case in any thread I made. Considering I've had the battery die 3 times prior to this event, I assumed it was the original battery in the car because it's an 05. A 5 year old OEM Acura battery is not going to last forever.

If I had the alternator tested at an auto parts store it would have been the same as removing the battery terminal when the car was running. If there was a problem outside of the alternator or battery I assume it would have been found in the prior weeks when the car was inspected for nearly 4 hours before they found their problem at the stealership (and then worked on for over 10 hours to resolve problem).

Since last month on the 12th when I installed the new battery the car has powered up every day. The spacers I talked about above were installed on the 13th so no play in the engine bay for those looking to buy this battery.

I was not about to go and have the car towed around for hundreds of dollars. A couple weeks prior to this thread I had a $350 tow bill after my insurance paid $150 of it, and then the dealership bill to have it fixed which was $1,500.

Edit* You know what, I'd prefer you didn't reply. No one knows what's going on in my life and I'm ready to explode but I'm not doing it on a fucking internet forum.

I'll have the alternator tested just for the record and my own security
