No heat at idle

Hello,

This is my first winter with my 08 TL.

I have no heat at idle. Can warm up for 30 minutes, cold as an ice box. Once I rev it up or accelerate I get heat.

I am in the auto business. So I checked the basics. Coolant full, no leaks, bled system, no air.

Obviously I am going to replace the thermostat next. Just curious if their are common issues I should look for, this is my first TL.

See attached picture, that's after 45 minutes, is that proper temp for this vehicle? thanks

If I am recalling correctly, there is a Heater Control Valve that sticks at times and may be worth checking.

Acurazine has been much more reliable over acura most of the time

My theory on this is if the engine itself is up to temp and behaving normal, the thermostat "may" not be the primary suspect. If only the heat is acting up, the prime suspects would be an air bubble or the HCV.

thermostat going in now. will see how it works out

heater control valve works. when I switch between hot and cold the lever attached to cable does move so I doubt it is stuck or restricted so not thinking HCV

thermostat/air in system im hoping

as of now thermostat and "bleed" seemed to fix issue, heat at idle now. time will tell tomorrow morning when its freezing out. it was 65 in shop.

the coolant temp read 200F prior to replacing thermostat so may not always be able to go by that

FIY the arm on the lever might works but the plastic valve on the inside could be broke off the arm therefore you can see movement on the out side but on the inside the valve does not open at all.

Yeah, I would've thought the same..

inspect the inside water valve, if its good then you might want to see if the heater core get some short of clogging. Eric the car guy has great DIY on how to unclog/flush heater core.
