New LED's Installed..now dead battery! WTF? HELP!

Okay, so I just got done installing all new LED's for the map lights, rear courtesy, doors, glovebox, console, trunk, license plate, and back up lights. Whew...! Honestly, it didn't take that long and they look SWEET! Pics to come.

On to my real question! After installing everything, I go to start up the car and it's dead! WTF! I didn't originally disconnect the battery while doing all of this, but I did after I blew my first interior fuse. I reconnected the battery, turned the key, and all I got was click..click..click.

So now I am scratching my head wondering if the LED's had something to do with it. They really don't pull that much more juice do they??

I put the battery charger on, let it set for a few minutes, and like magic the car starts up! I let it run for 15min or so, shut it off, and it starts up fine again.

Any ideas? My car is barely 2yrs old. I know I've read other posts on here that say the Acura batteries are crap. What should I do? Should I take it to a local battery shop to have it tested? The closest Acura dealership is about an hour away. Would it be worth driving up to them? Will they replace it under warranty? Or should I just get a better battery like an Optima?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Did you have the radio playing or something electrical running while you were doing the install?

Radio was on for maybe 30min or so before I blew a fuse. I went to install the LED light in the trunk, and POW my interior light fuse blew. After that, I disconnected the battery.

That might have drained your batt depending on how loud you were playing it. I did the same thing on my Dads buick for about half an hour cleaning the car and it ran out of battery lol. A jump fixed it.

Really?? After 30min of having the radio on that drains the battery? My '00 Honda Accord was better than that. We would have my car on for a couple hours with the radio, and the headlights on the basketball court and it always started up fine!!

I had my key in the ACC position for 25 minutes or so while I cleaned my interior, and it was dead afterward. I had the battery tested and it was "like new." I think part of the issue is that the A/C comes on while the key is in the ACC position. That drains the battery.

You guys must have terrible batteries .. when I had my TL I could play my radio for a couple hours before the car would even hiccup when it started.

Keep in mind, I had the volume at about 10-12, wired with a 12" sub and a stock undersize crank pulley.

Sounds like your battery is marginal. The LEDs wouldn't do it. I put LEDs in my Wife's Pilot for this very reason to prevent battery killing and the LEDs have solved that issue. I would take your car into the dealer and get a new battery. A free new battery is a better deal than paying 100+ for an Optima. I still have my original battery and it's hanging strong for now after 3 years- this post may be the kiss of death on my battery now.

LEDs take less power so they wouldn't be the problem. It was your radio. The guy at the dealership told me that if I was playing with NAVI w/o the engine on, my batt would die in 15 minutes. I guess a bunch of stuff is just one while the car is on ACC. Radio, HFL, climate control, etc.

Go to an auto store and have the guy do a battery check, they have a device that checks it and it its dead then if still under warranty take it to a dealer and have them replace free of charge

So I went to the auto store today and had them check out the battery. It tested out fine. I'll still have the dealership check it out the next time that I am in for an oil change too.

But for now, everything is working fine. I just can't believe that leaving the radio on for such a short time would kill the battery that quickly!

And yes, if anyone is planning on changing to LED's be sure to disconnect the battery first. It will save you time and frustration in having to change out a fuse. I knew I should have done that, but just forgot!

It sounds like it was a simple draw down of the battery- perhaps many things need to be factored in addition to only the radio. Perhaps the Nav screen was on in addition to the radio. The nav is suppose to shutdown after a period of time (or so I thought), but the screen was still going after an hour of washing my car recently. In addition, if you replaced those door/puddle lights later in the process before disconnecting the battery- those would have sucked some juice while you were working on the other interior lights (providing you had the doors open the whole time).

Anyway, it sounds like you drained your battery, but perhaps the battery is still good after the fact. Have the dealer check it out and see what they say.

go back to the auto parts store then play the radio for 10mins... and have them test the battery again... bet you it will show it's time for a new battery

you've probably read my posts about the acura battery... lets just say unless you dont mind waiting around for acura tlc... dont waste ur time... get a battery from a near by auto parts store that carries a warranty problem solved
