aftermarket brake pads can cause a screech, excessive build up on the brake pads, im sure if the dealer resurfaced your rotors, they would have told you if your brake pads were worn down, what i do with those concerns is get a can of brake clean, the good stuff...no cheap crap, i use BG's brake clean, spray the pads down...even through the rim's work...the first few stops it'll sound screechy...after that..the noise is gone...works everytime...good luck

Need model/year/miles now/miles at brake service/type of driving done to really help you
Could be pads or edge ridge build up on rotor
Rotors can USUALLY be resurfaced once, then the next time would make them thinner than allowed
I see your in The City, lots of brake dragging in traffic on the downhills
My bet is hot pads and a little edge ridge
Some HAWK HPS pads will fix you up
Take it to a brake shop for free inspection- just dont let them work on it
until you check back here- many expert mechanics and TL experts on here

Have we confirmed that the hawk pads won't squeak on the 3rd gen? I've seen a bunch of threads complaining about the hawk pads, and a bunch that say they are quiet.

I'm planning on getting new rotors/pads soon and am certain I won't get the rotex pads again. Still trying to figure out what will keep the noise away.

Hey thevnct, did the brake cleaner work?

Mine were doing the same thing, squeeling really bad at about 32k miles. I took it into the dealer and they said it was due to the rotors and pads being glazed. They said the pads still had 80% life left (original pads). They turned the rotors and sanded the pads and after 2 months the squeeling has started to return. I don't want to get the rotors turned again, so I'm hoping a simple fix like this will help. However, if the squeeling is due to glazing, I seriously doubt the brake cleaner will work.

It's your pads which are glazed, not the rotors. Change to new pads, and make sure the shop cleans the pads and rotors before putting installing the new pads.

ANY car dealer is required BY LAW to make sure there is at least 30% brake life remaining when they sell a car, and they are supposed to be doing a very detailed inspection too,--
they simply forgot to replace the brakes on your car!
Anything under 3000 miles after purchase would mean brakes were shot already
Go back in and speak with a manager- ask for the mechanics inspection printout and negotiate either they do it with good parts, or issue a refund for the dealer price on brakes for selling you a car with no brakes.
THE STATE COMMISSION WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN THAT!
NOTE---DO NOT LET THE DEALER DO YOUR BRAKES!!!!!

Others- driving gently all the time or stop and go driving can easily cause pad glaze- if the rotors are ok, you can do a hi speed re-bedding procedure to remove the glaze
This is especially true of most High Performance pads- they are meant to be heated up by useage and thats where they work and keep themselves clean and happy!

If installing Hawk pads on used rotors that are not resurfaced first- clean rotor with 150 grit sandpaper and wash with soap and water to remove all grit- thats from Hawks instructions IN the box of new HPS pads.

I do not get any noticable noises from my HPS pads. They make some brake dust because they get worked hard, I just polish the rims and that makes cleanup during weekly wash a snap.
You can run the ceramics for a few dollars more and they are supposed to be even quieter- but I think most who say the Hawks are noisy are just jealous ebc or other brand buyers.

Do you have the hawk pads installed on a 3rd gen TL? I know you love your hawk pads, but I seriously doubt that most of the people who have installed them on the 3rd gen TL's are not competent enough to bed them properly. Being a hawk fanboy doesn't mean you have ignore a potential flaw in the product.
