Hi I have a 2005 Acura TL and here recently the check engine light came on as well as VSA. Car over ta few days slowly started to die leaning loss of power when u accelerate and poor poor gas milage. you'll need to provide MORE info.
Please check the battery to see how old it is. (most of the time, there will be a little date sticker showing Month and Year. for example; today would be 7/17)

if battery is more than 3 years old, it would likely need to be replaced.
then if you can get your car to an autoparts store, they can read the codes for free.
(Any time your car throws a check engine light, it's a hint or an alert telling you something is wrong.) maybe some of your buddies have an OBDII reader they can hook up and read the codes

 

Here is a better understanding what it's doing-its not a battery issue for sure-had the battery checked. Plus it's only a year old. The car first started off getting like 13mpg from averaging 23mpg. It slowly started too loose i guess I'd call its "torque" as u would give it gas especially when it hit vetch it's like u we're barely giving it gas.then the check engine light came on shortly after as well as the VSA. At that point it barely had any power when u have it gas. Had the codes pulled and one of them said it was a catylic converter and I was told the cats were clogged. I did some more research and most cars after 2000 didn't have issues with clogged cats. Have it at a mechanic now getting looked at but since the car sat for about a week without starting the battery drained. So it reset the codes and is no longer throwing codes because the car will not start,cranks over with an odd whining noise I guess u would say but won't start. Battery is charging now so once the codes throw again I'll get a better understanding of what it's doing from a mechanic point of view. Just trying to see if I could get a quicker answer? Hopefully that was enough info

 

Cats still get clogged .. not sure where you got info stating otherwise.

 

why can't people just go scan the code before hand.

 

bad fuel will clog cats!
now it's up to your mechanic to figure out what is going on with the car, as we still dont know much.

Really hard to guess from limited data, but I'm gonna say clogged cat. OP, didn't they give you a print out of the codes?

 

When I think of loss of power like that, where the car still wants to run, I would first assume starvation of fuel....fuel pump. But before I dive into the fuel pump, I would for sure add some high end fuel system cleaner to see if the injectors were clogged. The Ethanol added to our fuel gunks up pretty good over time. I wouldn't say this is the main cause but definitely first impressions if it was happening to me because from what I read, the car wasn't throwing any codes when it was initially loosing power.

 

Car sat for a week and now dead? You have battery issues as well. Your car should be able to sit for multiple weeks and still have plenty of juice to start.

 

Not necessarily. My battery goes dead after about 4-5 days of no use (example: vacations). This has to do with parasitic draw from your HFL. I recently posted about this (post moved to problems section). I disconnected my non working HFL and didn't have a problem when I returned.

 

Thanks everyone really helps a lot. Test the fuel pump and the injectors all good and not clogged. But each of my cylinders have very drastic differences in compression. So at this point since it won't start I can't get it to throw the codes. Not sure what to do from here?

 

My car regularly goes 3-5 days without being started since I work from home. When we go on vacation, it sits for 7-20 days and never had issues starting. 2 years ago we were in Europe for 2 weeks and then in St. Louis for another week...car still started just fine. My HFL has only been removed this year since I happened to notice melted snow this past winter and yanked it before it gave me trouble.

Again, if your car dies after 3 days of sitting, you have electrical/battery issues. Those issues may be the HFL, but either way, there are issues.

 

What are your numbers? What did your spark plugs look like? That can tell you a lot about whats going on. I FEEL like it is ignition related.

 

Battery going dead won't erase the stored codes. Get them read again and post the codes.
