Need Help...Rattle in Dash/steering wheel area
Need Help...Rattle in Dash/steering wheel area
Its been off and on....but now there is a constant buzz eminating from the steering wheel column or gauges area. I can't really pinpoint it because I have 3 other rattles going at the same time(one from the driver window area, the glove box, and the overhead console) making it impossible to isolate. Was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem and what was the fix. I also have the rear deck rattle. Pretty soon I may rattle the TL off a bridge.
Me too but only at certain temperatures. Usually in th AM when the car is just out of he garage but not after work when the interior is toasty warm. It isn't constant but rather a buzz with each bump. Choppy pavement will make it more pronounced. I can get it to buzz by just "rapping" the side of the wheel with my palm. Sounds like in the wheel/column more than the gauges.
Next weekend morning when the car is cool and I have some extra time I will try and track it down. I'll post back if I find it.

Thanks! I'm going nuts with all these rattles. People must think I have Teurets when I drive cause I'm constantly trying to pinpoint the rattles so when I bring it in, the tech can try and fix. I don't want to see "could not duplicate customer complaint" again on my invoice. I hate that crap.
had the same problem but it disapeared now. It may be temprature related and in fact when the sun roof was open it was worse. Perhaps different air currents? Would like to here what anyone finds or knows.
I had the steering wheel rattle and it was the airbag assm. The driver window area rattle was the oh shit handle vibrating and the rear deck was one of the push in snaps not pushed in at all. It was the fastener closest to the sub.

I have about 3k on my 05 TL and I'm having the Dash vibation, along with a vibration in the rear which I can NOT isolate...Ive touched everything near the rear window while driving and the damn noise is not going away. On top of this when I have my moon roof on TILT, that makes a nerve wrecking noise as well.
Basically Im listening to a symphony of rattles, and I need to turn up the radio crazily loud to fade them away. There is no way I can duplicate the dash noise for the dealer when i take it in, because it is only audible and annoying at 2-3 am in those quiet drives home...
HELP anyone else having to cope with so much rattling in these cars?
I had 2 other rattling problems which I had fixed at 1k miles...the center console around the shifter was squeeky and the side passenger door compartment rattled...they replaced teh compartment and fixed the shifter holder...
I have no idea if I am going to have to bring this car in every day for a new rattling problem!

I have 11K on my 04 TL and have suffered from an annoying rattle from the steering column area since the day I drove it off the dealership.
I have heard of several reasons but have never been able to detect the real cause. However, two probable reasons warrant further investigation during the next service.
Reason 1
“brakes began to fade resulting in noticeable steering column vibration” see Motor Trend 10/2005 page 157)
Reason 2
Mud & snow tires that come standard with the A/T – this has been cited as one of the probable reasons (Tires? Acuzine)

American quality - TL is built in USA. TSX has way less rattles.
You are not alone. My TL rattles as well. Read this forum and see how many TL drivers suffer this pain.
No more Acura...fu%% it
Do not listen to dealer who may say that all cars develop rattles.
It is false statement. Every time I am in my friends car (maxima, mb, lexus) there are no fuck&&& rattles.
I like how TL handles, its style, look, but I can not drive TL without CD or radio on.
Best you can do is:
1. try to fix rattles yourself (ask someone to drive and locate rattle, one by one)
2. once you tired with 1. get rid of TL and get Lexus or MB.
3. make sure it will not be built in usa.
The buttons on my steering wheel (navi/phone ones) rattle sometimes. I couldn't tell where it was coming from for the longest time and then I put my hand on them and it stopped. Give that a try next time you hear that rattling. Just moving them a bit seems to stop it.
I was noticing a buzz/rattle sound coming from the steering column area. After tapping/hitting a number of things around that part of the dash, I found that if I hit the steering wheel on the left and right side, I could reproduce the sound. I may be wrong but it sounds like the noise is coming from the center of the steering wheel itself.
Is there any way to remove the horn cover to examine the contents? Maybe there's loose plastic flap, wire coming into contact with hard plastic, wire loom or something else in there that can be padded or secured.
Just a thought...

Just got my car serviced (odometer reading 11,500 miles) last week - had 3 major issues:
Problem: rattle noise from around the steering column (below the steering wheel)
Fix: they were not able to identify where the rattle noise is coming from – however, I was told that Acura is aware of it but does not have a “fix” for it yet. They are still working on it.
Problem: rattle noise from around the "B" pillar (area with the seat belt harness on passenger side)
Fix: they had to replace the foam/insulation inside
Problem: the plastic trim around the passenger side exhaust had come off (FYI only - nothing to do with rattle issues listed above) - flimsy design that does not hold in place; most probably came off during drive thru car wash!

Would anyone who has a shop manual for the 04-06 TL be able to tell me if they can look up whether there are instructions for how to remove the face(horn panel) and the button(vol, cruise control, etc) surrounds? I've got some buzzy rattlin' going on and I'm determined to take care of it myself. No dealership hassles for me!
Your help is greatly appreciated
