That is some serious carnage Sorry to see that, bro. That's the biggest downfall in buying a car used. At least you know everything will be new.

As for the list of don't do's...I'm guilty of rocking the car with the clutch sometimes

Good time to end this habit. It is bad for all three major components and even the release bearing gets a workout.

wow that clutch, flywheel and PP looks destoyed. I just replaced my clutch in my TSX and mine didnt even look close you yurs. I put a new clutch in my TSX @ 54k I got 57k now and driving great. I purchased my TSX with 54k about a month ago. I guy i bought it off of put a new clutch in a YEAR ago with records and it needed a new clutch a year later!!!! We think the dealer screwed him over, but anyway a new clutch at 54k prob less milage since is was gone a year ago = bad driving/ shifting habits

Wow! I'm surprised all the friction material is gone. Didn't it just recently start slipping?

You know, here is the real shame in all of this. Clutches are not rocket science. They've been around for longer than any of us here have been alive. They are simple mechanical devices and for many years, have served quite well.

So you have to ask yourself, why the hell did Acura, or Honda or both, decide to take something which was a near perfect design and crap it up by thinking they could improve on it when all they did was to add needless complexity. The clutch, and the transmission, in my '66 396 Chevelle was worlds better and infinitely stronger than the TL clutch or just about any other manual out there. Granted, I had to perform an adjustment maybe every half year which took all of perhaps five minutes, but I would much rather have that simple and superior design than something that is going to be potentially problematic and leave me stranded somewhere.

Sorry for the rant, but we are just seeing too many similar problems to pass it off. I have not had any problems with my clutch or tranny in my '04 TL, but that does not mean that down the road I won't.

Good for you! While there is no real break-in needed for a clutch assembly, common sense and taking it easy for perhaps 500 miles is prudent and certainly can't hurt. Glad you're good to go.

This is why I would try the GM fluid before going in for warranty work when it comes to the tranny. I had the 3rd gear issue, swapped the fluid and have been smooth shifting since. A word to the wise, change your fluid with synchromesh friction modified before willingly allowing ANY shop to take apart your tranny!

Keep in mind that this thread is about clutch problems, not the 3rd gear issue. Transmission fluid has nothing to do with clutch components.
