My struggle to get the rattles fixed

Just wanting to cry out to azine community and get some advice.

I'm the original owner of an 06 TL 6spd, and the my car seems to have more and more rattles as it ages. The very first rattle around subwoofer came on at around 4500 mi, which the dealer seem to have fixed, but from there on, things gotten much worse. These stupid rattles seem to have a character of their own, so I am having a problem replicating, but the damn rattles come on when you least think about them....Depending on road conditions, speed, weather, and god knows what else, I get all front windows, headliner, and a dash singing altogether...all TSBs seem to have been performed, and dealer had given up. A phone call to Acura resulted in an offer for a free extended warranty to compensate, but the warranty is only til like 90k mi so its not enough. I am insisting on a test drive with a regional Acura rep but afraid if won't be able to replicate will lose my case.

I know what you mean, there are NUMEROUS rattles in my 08 TL-S and it only has 11K on it. It really annoys the shit out of me most of time but I gotta deal with it guess... rather have the rattles than a car payment soo

Yes, rattle buckets, we all know. But forget the dealer, you will just get tossed around. If you look in the garage, and search, you will find dozens of rattle fix threads. Just take a Saturday and DIY. Trust me.

You know, I was getting really annoyed of the driver side vent rattle the other day. And I opened the side door pocket to put my sunglasses in and the vent rattle disappeared! The next day in the morning I heard the vent rattle slightly and did the same thing, opened and closed the door pocket and the rattle stopped again! You guys should try this, I remember reading a thread on the vent rattle and how somebody completely tore open the vent and the driver side tweeter unable to find the source of the rattle. I honestly think that the vent or tweeter isn't rattling, it's the door pocket instead! Maybe I'm wrong and my door pocket was rattling, but just try it! Maybe it'll work

Lol, let me try to say this the best I can.

The drivers side vent rattles. It rattles in several places and we all probably experience some or all of them. On the piece itself, the metal trim piece on the outside is kind of loose on the inside and can hit other plastics. Stuff something between them. Also, the lower vent tube can rattle with the top vent tube, the top vent tube can rattle with the dash, so stuff something between both of those. I also find that the vent piece itself where it cosmetically meets with the dash can rattle, so I stuffed foam all around the edge. I even went a couple steps further. I put foam all around the vent tubes on the piece itself and the tubing in the dash. I also wrapped the clips with electrical tape. I figured the more snug it is held in, the better off I would be. All of this took 5 minutes max. So far, 0 rattles. And like I said, I could tell that there were 2-3 different rattles from that area.

But yes, the door pocket rattles to. The pocket itself can rattle, the sunglass thing can rattle, and even the sunglasses can rattle in the sunglass holder! My idea. Felt all you can, and for the sunglass thing, instead of removing it like a lot do here (I use it...) how about lining the inside with a long haired fabric or what not. Like what is on the inside of nice sunglass cases. That way even the sunglasses can't rattle.

Once I started looking at the car and how to fix any potential noise makers, I really saw that almost everything can be silenced, it's just up to you to figure out how.

I am the one you talked I guess.
But I am sure that we are talking a different rattle. The one I had disappears when I push dash around tweeter down. So it has nothing to do with door pocket.

I have 2008 TL too. What other rattles do you have? I have a real bad rattle from center speaker and a rattle from glove box(looks like it goes away if I open the glove box) + a lot of other rattles I can't identify the source.

I have a couple of rattles too. The most annoying one was the one which I thought was the driver side vent rattle, I discovered that it was the door pocket that was rattling in reality.

The reason my door pocket rattled so much was because I put the coin separator in the door pocket, after I removed the coin holder the rattle went away.

Right now the most annoying rattle I have is the center speaker rattle, which is not as noisy as the door pocket rattle and I push on the center speaker or tap it and it goes away. My headliner rattles as well, it doesn't happen very often and is pretty low noise so it doesn't bother me that much. My rear shelf rattles slightly for songs with heavy bass. I plan on getting that fixed along with my 3rd gear problem when I take my car in for the first oil change.

Overall, the remaining rattles don't bother me too bad. The worst one was the door pocket rattle, at first I thought it was the driver side vent. My driver side vent does have a very very slight rattle though. But it's so low that I can only hear it if I put my head next to my steering wheel and listen closely.

For the center speaker rattle, the fix should be easy. applying some felt tape will do the job. But, the bad part is taking off that speaker grill. I did it several times but can't do it without putting slight dent on the surface of the grill. I ended up ordering a new grill because I hate to see this imperfection. I know you have a brand new 2008 TL like I do. And you will not want to see this dented ugly speaker grill on your dashboard.

So if you are going to fix the center speaker rattle, know that you may have the same problem like I had. Mine rattles like crazy, so don't be surprised when your center speaker rattles like mine someday. :-)

Have you tried going to the dealership and asking them to fix it for you?

I mean it's pretty ridiculous, a 20k Accord LX doesn't have any rattles. There is no reason why a 38k car from the same manufacturer should have so many rattles. The dealership should at least try to fix it for you under warranty.

I did. 3 times no fix. And yes. they think I am anal.
They are just not happy to see my face again.

I gave up on them because whenever I take my car in, they don't fix the problem but causing more trouble.
In fact my vent assembly was very quiet until they took off to repair this dashboard rattle.

And finally they said they will have to take off the whole dashboard to repair it which is a big NO NO for me.

So I decided to take this into my own hands.

Hey I have Accord LX too. But my accord rattles too. But not as much as TL. The road noise from outside is just more louder with accord.

My old camry and Elantra was pretty much rattle free and no, I did not expect this from a 40K car.

...anyone has rattle coming from headliner/sunroof visor area?

Also, does anyone have rattles from both front door windows?

I would not feel comfortable dissassembling the door panels or taking down the headliner...this experience driving a rattle bucket makes me hate entire Honda/Acura product line

Rattles! I have spent so many hours working on rattles I got felt tape all over lol and I still have rattles. Its gotten better though. Now that most of the rattles are gone I notice the squeeks and creaks and stuff when the car chassis is twisted slightly from a bump or something.

I currently have 4 kinds of rattles:
- sunroof area - less pronouced when the lid is closed (I do not have the sunroof visor BTW)
- the right passenger side - the sunglass holder is removed, opening the glovebox/opening the side pocked does not help - the rattle is not constant and always pops our of no where
- the center speaker rattle - not as anoying as the 2 above
- the subwoofer rattle - aslo not as annoying as the first 2 rattles

on top of this, I have the 3rd gear problem with my 6MT

.... and I do not want to start how my car has 1 inch holes in A pillars (both sides) how the silver trim around the dashboard is missaligned and few other annoyances.

am I anal? hell no. I can understand small things can develop over time, but getting rattles from almost get go (I am 1st owener of the car) is a bit ridiculous.
The 1st 2 rattles are soo bad, that I stopped using the bluetooth connection on my cell phones becasue when everything is quiet, in most cases, the other person can hear the damn rattles (the sunroof rattle)
the wose thing is - they all come and go

Yes these cars rattle. There is plenty on info on this that is/was available for a long time. I would say since 2004 when the car was released. You have two options, turn the radio up, or continue to lose sleep and chase ghosts that you will never catch. Ever play wackamole? And before you say...I PAID XX AMOUNT AND SHOULDNT HAVE TO LISTEN..... As I stated earlier....these cars are inherent rattle boxes and that has been known since 2004. If you are the type of person who is bothered by rattles (most of which can be overidden by a simple push of the power button on your audio unit) then I would find another car company and buy their product. And then of course deal with whatever nuances they have.

I guess I'm fairly lucky. I just fixed the armrest buzzing which sounded like there was a baby rattler in each armrest. I just took an old credit card and cut three small strips for each side and then wrapped them with electrical tape and slid them under the armrests where they meet the bezzle for the power windows. Cheesy fix maybe, but the noise is completely gone. That was really annoying me. I just have to do the subwoofer fix and I'll have a quiet car. I do get an occasional rattle from the driver's side window and some minor creaks when it's below 15 degrees, but nothing like the incessant armrest noise. The only other thing that pisses me off is how the center console creaks when I rest my arm on it. Not cool for a 33K+ car.

You guys think its pathetic...... we have to chase these rattles daily. I've pretty much fixed them all.

Only one solution downgrade/upgrade to a 2nd gen, or upgrade to a 4th gen TL.

Some dealers strive to do THE best they can, we at XXXXXXXX dealer care about our customer service satisfaction, we will go on a test drive with a customer and then fix your problem. And if you don't like it, bring it back and we will try to address it till you are happy. We know Acura didn't do their homework on the interior build quality, and its up to the dealers to do their R&D work.

So speaking of rattles, anyone have any suggestions about something that ticks/rattles near the driver's seat belt? Even with my stereo turned up, on long highway cruises I hear this constant tick/rattle in my ear. Sounds like it is the pillar between the doors, but I have tried pushing on the plastic and such with no improvement.

And for those that think the TL is a rattle trap....try driving a domestic (true domestic like a Chevy or a Ford) car. I think the only reason these cars stand out is because they are so quiet in the first place.

Hi Everyone,

I had an 06 TL and an 08 TLS and it was very clear that the quality of acura vehicles is in the toilet. I cant understand why acura cant get their act together when a customer pays $38K for a car. In the 15K miles that I had my 08 TLS the car was in the shop something like 15-20 times (3rd gear, spoiler comming unglued twice, broken end links, rear struts replaced 3 times, broken center console, rattles up the you know what... Rear deck, rear sub-woofer, headliner, a pillar, driver vent, driver tweeter, sun glass holder etc.) The 2 straws that broke me were when the car left me stranded on the side of the turnpike at 11PM when it was something like 15 degrees for a stupid computer update that acura was aware of. Finally the leather on the driver seat started peeling/fading and the dealer had the nerve to tell me that I should not be wearing my coat when I drive in winter.

Unfortunately I could not deal with the trips to the dealer any more, I got ride of the car!! Hated to do it but when you spend $38K on a car you expect to drive it and not have to take it into the dealer every other week. I know that some problems are normal as no car is perfect, but as I continue to read the threads of the same problems over and over with a lot of people, I can even imagine what the hell is going thru Acuras head.

So long.

I mean seriously, why do dealers say such stupid thing to customers? Are they looking to pick a fight with their customers? I can understand that if dealer says "It's normal character of the car" when they can not fix a rattle. It's just another way of saying "we don't know how to fix it."

But complaining for not wearing coat in the winter???
I don't know. The only thing I can think of they want the customer to punch his face.

I don't know why they want something like that.
