My Shift lock keeps locking up help?

Every time I put the car in park, first i would step on the brake then try to put the car in drive but the shifter does not budge unless i push down the shift lock. Why is that? its really annoying me now since it started happening two days ago. Things like this makes me want to sell my car and forget about my 6spd conversion. I might just get a 07 BMW 550i or M5 if my little acura keeps pissing me off.

Switch/solenoid might be gone. Check fuses to be sure.

still havent gotten a chance to make it to the dealership but the issue is still happening also sometimes when im driving and i want to-for example try to park, when i try to put the shifter in reverse it would get stuck and i would have to once again push down the shift lock button with something sharp. any other ideas what it might be because its really bugging me and my check the gas cap light came on as well but its nice and tight. Stuff like this is going to make me sell this car and get a nice bmw mengggggg.

Most likley, its the sensor behind the break pedal. It's a common thing to go over the years/if it was a dud.
If it is the sensor, you can replace it yourself - if your into that.
It happens to 2g's where you cant shift out of park and you need to use the override towtruck hole to do it.

theres a little tab you pop up and you stick a flat object in there or its a button.

so i took my little car to the dealership and found it its the brake sensor link i forgot the exact part name but when i step on the brake the shift lock doesnt sense the brake engaging to switch the gear from park to drive and causes it to get stuck also when the shifter is in neutral going into reverse so that is the cause of my problem. But will be fixed tommorow but while they where checking out my car lots of the mechanics and the service manager asked me how do i drive so low in nyc streets and not scrape. I told him its straight skills but they encourage me to keep my car but im thinking really hard man. I really like the 5 series period and been researching m5 maintainance is no joke so its either the 530,545,or 550 sport with the nice smg option man.

yea the piece is like 21 bucks but the dealer is charging me like 140 to install it like WTF. I need some one in NY to help me with this if its that easy to fix because 140 for a brake pedal link installed i dont think so. Damm that Acura dealership in brooklyn on nostrand ave. Im not really that handy but i want this piece installed right. Im no longer going to be taken advantage of by the dealership lol thats y i say beamer with 3 yr warranty is great then when the warranty is finished ill extend it shoot lol.

alright guys i took the shop to the my mechanic for this brake pedal switch issues instead of waisting time at the dealer. So it looks like after all that i have to take the car to the dealership or at least order the part to have it installed because its actually the solenoied under the shifter thats causing the shifter to get stuck in park, stuck when in nuetral going into reverse and sometimes i can switch from park all the way to drive without stepping on the brakes. So one this is fixed i will officially sell my car maybe with my coilovers so i will be starting a for sale thread. First is my H&R coilovers for around 800 obo and trade for old stock suspension.

Pretty extreme measures to sell the car over a $21 part and then lay out around $50k for an M5.

What do you think the OP will do if the mass airflow sensor or a Bluetooth module on the BMW goes bad?
