My engine ticks too...

So i just bought a 2005 TL 6 speed manual on Tuesday in Minneapolis. It was a 1 owner, 38 service records 116,000 miles new clutch, flywheel, timing belt, tensioner, water pump and O2 sensor all done at Acura dealer I bought the car from before they listed it. I drove it home 6 hours to Omaha and it was amazing minus the brakes squeeling. This weekend while replacing the brakes in my garage i had it ideling and noticed a faint tick...FML! It does not do it cold, is faint warm and not noticable unless at idle. I'm going to bring it in tomorrow to my guy and see what he says but do you think i shluld try to return the car to the dealer? I love this car and it was hard to find. After reading everything that the other guy had to deal with on the forum eventually buying a used engine with 45k on it i am a little hesitant to try and hang on to this. The car is a dark blue with really nice tan interior and it looks amazing. I sold my 2000 accord with 277,000 miles to upgrade to this. Also, i asked the dealer before i bought it if the valves had been adjusted and they said yes.

Thoughts on if i should keep the car? I have cash to put towards it if its not going to be a long term money pit. I really take pride in this car and i love the way it looks inside and out. I dont want to be embarased by an engine knock when im in a parking lot. I used to own a BMW 335xi which this Acura reminds of a lot. I dont want to throw money at it like i did the beamer before i got rid of it.

thanks in advance.

Does it have a tick or a knock? Mine has a faint tick since the day I brought it home 10 years ago with 38k miles on it. For the most part, I only notice it at a drive-thru since there is a solid wall reflecting the sound back to me with my window down. Know if it is a knock...well...yeah, that sucks, but there are still a few items that can cause some odd sounds that aren't horrible to repair/replace.

the faint ticking sound you heard actually cause by injector and its completely normal, all 3 of my TLs and RL have this noise. Trust me in term of cost to fix the TL will be a lot of cheaper than your old 335.

I brought it into my guy this morning and he also said it’s nothing but recommend adjusting the valves which is going to cost $550.00. About the same as the battery I had to replace once on my 335! Lol. I still need to fix the steering wheel lights for radio volume and the hands free other than that I plan to upgrade the speakers to give it a crisper sound. On a good note the car reminds me so much of the old 335. The way it sounds, handles, feels inside, comfort, not as fast or zippy but a MAJOR upgrade from the accord I just got rid of.

TL is the BMW minus the turbo and wrong wheel drive.

If there's a slight tick, check and make sure all your spark plugs are tight. The J series engine has a habit of ejecting #5 spark plug (front middle) due to the spark plug backing out. Others in the past have had good luck just torquing all the plugs to spec. Might save ya $550

Engine Ticking

I have this same problem also. Took it to the local Car-X and the techs say it’s normal. It started out faint but now, I f***ing hate it and it annoys the hell out of me...especially, at a drive-thru.
Hope this clip helps. If not, I’ll try to get better sound quality.

I was looking for this noise as well, and I also believe they are the fuel injectors. Watch some fuel injector videos.
